"Political correctness is a doctrine fostered by a delusional, illogical minority, and rabidly promoted by an unscrupulous mainstream media, which holds forth the proposition that it’s entirely possible to pick up a turd by the clean end." - Alan Simpson, Frontline Video Interview

Sam Bankman-Fried’s Criminal Trial Judge Is Married to Law Partner of Firm that Arranged the FTX-BlockFi Deal

By Pam Martens and Russ Martens: December 21, 2022 ~

Last week the New York Times did a puff piece on the judge that will be presiding over the Sam Bankman-Fried criminal trial in the Federal courthouse in lower Manhattan. The judge is Ronnie Abrams. The narrative at the New York Times is that Abrams’ “husband, Greg Andres, is an accomplished former Brooklyn federal prosecutor….”

Our take is that Greg Andres is part of Ronnie Abrams’ immediate household and a law partner of Davis Polk & Wardwell LLP, a law firm that has problematic ties to Bankman-Fried’s bankrupt crypto exchange, FTX, and another crypto firm it became enmeshed with, BlockFi, which is also now in bankruptcy...

Coinbase to pay $100 million settlement with New York regulators

Cryptocurrency company Coinbase will be required to pay $100 million to New York regulators after an investigation revealed the company was “vulnerable to serious criminal conduct," the Department of Financial Services said Wednesday.

Coinbase “failed to conduct due diligence” within its Bank Secrecy Act and Anti-Money Laundering program, according to the department's press release, including failing to keep ahead of the alerts triggered by its Transaction Monitoring System.

<snipit>

The lending unit of crypto firm Genesis filed on Thursday for U.S. bankruptcy protection from creditors, toppled by a market rout along with the likes of exchange FTX and lender BlockFi. Genesis Global Capital, one of the largest crypto lenders, froze customer redemptions on Nov. 16 after FTX stunned the financial world with its bankruptcy, fuelling concern that other companies could implode. The company is owned by venture capital firm Digital Currency Group (DCG).

U.S. can become a crypto superpower with ‘sensible’ regulation, Eric Trump saysU.S. can become a crypto superpower with ‘sensible’ regulation, Eric Trump says

A set of “sensible” regulatory guidelines can help make the U.S. a cryptocurrency superpower, according to Eric Trump, executive vice president of the Trump organization and son of president-elect Donald Trump.

Speaking to CNBC’s Dan Murphy in Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates, Eric Trump said Monday that he’d been a “big fan of crypto for a long time” and his father intends to “make America the crypto capital of the world” on his return to the White House.

His comments come shortly after the price of bitcoin, the world’s largest cryptocurrency, climbed above $100,000 for the first time.

The highly anticipated milestone was hailed as a landmark moment for digital assets, with investors increasingly confident the new U.S. administration will seek to cement the crypto industry’s place in financial markets.

Bitcoin, which is up a whopping 137% year-to-date, has since dipped back below the six-figure mark. The flagship digital currency was last seen trading at around $99,808.62, according to Coin Metrics.

“The modern banking system is antiquated. It’s just a matter of time before crypto not only catches up, but just really leaps ahead. And so, we’re incredibly excited on a lot of fronts,” Eric Trump said.

“I think America will be the crypto capital of the world. I fully support it. My father fully supports it. Our family, you know, is fully embracing it. We believe in DeFi ... We believe that’s the way of the future. And again, America, you know, better lead the way, otherwise we’re going to leave a lot behind,” he added.

DeFi refers to decentralized finance, a system of applications that aim to recreate traditional financial instruments with cryptocurrency.

Eric Trump to deliver keynote at Abu Dhabi crypto conference

This week’s Bitcoin MENA conference in Abu Dhabi will showcase some of the key cryptocurrency players in the incoming Trump administration, including the President-elect’s son Eric, who will deliver the keynote to a crowd of 6,000 at the ADNEC center.

Also speaking at the Gulf’s biggest crypto gathering is billionaire Steve Witkoff, who has been appointed the new White House envoy for the Middle East, Reuters reports. Witkoff is co-founder of World Liberty Financial, a cryptocurrency platform launched in September that Donald Trump and his family helped form.

Both Trump and Witkoff will be holding “whales-only” chats in the conference’s VIP lounge, where admission requires a $9,999 pass for whales, the crypto nickname for large players who have potential to move markets, the news agency said.

Other speakers with close ties to World Liberty Financial include Justin Sun, the 32-year-old Chinese founder of blockchain platform Tron, Reuters reports...............

Bitcoin is extending its Wednesday rally on Thursday afternoon following the announcement that Texas State Representative Giovanni Capriglione has officially filed a bill to create a strategic Bitcoin reserve for the Lone Star state.

A partial text of the new bill was also shared on social media. “An act relating to the establishment of a Bitcoin reserve within the State Treasury and the management of cryptocurrencies by governmental entities,” it read. “This act may be cited as the Texas Strategic Bitcoin Reserve Act.”

According to the opening sections of the bill, the Texas Strategic Bitcoin Reserve Act will involve the use of cold storage wallets to keep the state’s Bitcoin reserve safe from online threats...............

Texas state legislator files bill to create strategic Bitcoin reserve

Did anyone see the Fox Business blurb this afternoon about what Wyoming might be planning?  Wyoming is considering creating "Wyhs?" which will be their  addition of adding  their name to the Bitcoin pool, with what appears to be some innovative twists to it. Unless, I heard wrong, it sounds like they are using the good faith of the Wyoming treasury and economy  to back the base coinage.  What is sounds like is they would cover par value, say 1.000, and then let it float on the market.  So when a conservative fiscally strong state like WY does well, the Crypt would do well, in kind of like an equity market.  I might have read it wrong, but interesting.

Sure sounds like lots of risk, but it peaked my interest.  Any of our Crytpo-nites have any comments?
