The South African doctor who first sounded the alarm on the Omicron variant of the coronavirus said that its symptoms are “unusual but mild” in healthy patients — but she’s worried the strain could cause complications in the elderly and unvaccinated.

Dr. Angelique Coetzee, a practicing doctor for 30 years who chairs the South African Medical Association (SAMA), said she believed she had found a new strain of the virus after COVID-19 patients at her private practice in Pretoria exhibited strange symptoms.

“Their symptoms were so different and so mild from those I had treated before,” Coetzee told The Telegraph.

She called South Africa’s vaccine advisory committee on Nov. 18 after a family of four all tested positive for the virus with symptoms that included extreme fatigue.

So far, she’s had two dozen patients who tested positive and showed symptoms of the new variant, mostly young men. About half of the patients were unvaccinated, she said. None of those infected lost their sense of smell or taste.

We reported on the announcement of a new COVID variant which they are now calling the Omicron variant.

The variant was just discovered this week, but already you can hear the race to paint it in the worst light possible, suggesting that there was a lot to be concerned about because it was “heavily mutated,” that immunity and the vaccines might not protect against it. We saw the Dow take a huge plunge immediately after, likely in part because of thinking that this news could lead back to more government restrictions and problems.

The Biden administration reacted in a chaotic fashion. First, Dr. Anthony Fauci said they weren’t going to be jumping to banning travel from affected areas and then a couple of hours later, Biden announcing there would be a ban on eight African countries starting Monday at the recommendation of Fauci.

Now obviously, the new variant was just discovered, so I don’t know how anyone can be drawing any real conclusions about it yet; they haven’t had the time to actually study it much yet. It is, of course, wise to be cautious about it.

But being wise and causing panic are not the same thing.

The doctor who discovered the Omicron Covid-19 strain, Angelique Coetzee, says that she was pressured by European governments not to reveal that it had mild presentation, according to an interview in Germany's Welt.

When asked if it's true, Coetzee replied: "I was told not to state publicly that it was a mild illness. I have been asked to refrain from making such statements and to say that it is a serious illness. I declined." (translated).

"What does that mean?" replied Welt.

"I am a clinician and based on the clinical picture there are no indications that we are dealing with a very serious disease. The course is mostly mild. I'm not saying you won't get sick if you're mild.

"The definition of mild Covid-19 disease is clear, and it is a WHO definition: patients can be treated at home and oxygen or hospitalization is not required," she said, adding: "A serious illness is one in which we see acute pulmonary respiratory infections: people need oxygen, maybe even artificial respiration. We saw that with Delta - but not with Omikron. So I said to people, "I can't say it like that because it's not what we're seeing.""

When asked why she was prevented from telling the truth, Coetzee said "They tried, but they didn't make it."

"What I said at one point – because I was just tired of it – was: In South Africa this is a mild illness, but in Europe it is a very serious one. That's what your politicians wanted to hear."

According to Coetzee, she wasn't pressured by South African authorities - and was instead criticized by scientists in the UK and Netherlands, who said "How can you explain that it's a mild disease? It's a serious illness. Look at the mutations."    ...

The Chinese could be working on a more lethal version even now. SARS-CoV-2 would provide the perfect cover, because all they'd have to do is blame a 'variant'. Considering how long they denied the virus was lab made in the first place, it's be all over but for the crying if they did--and the Commiecrats would blame the 'unvaxxed'.

If they are, the next step may be trying to address the virulence of the coronavirus, now that they have proof of concept of its infectiousness.  Perhaps the recent ebola scare is evidence that they're now trying to engraft the virulence of the ebola virus into the coronavirus.

Consider they grafted the spike protein from a bat coronavirus into SARS (also a coronavirus), that's one thing. Ebola is a different sort of virus (Filovirus) and that might be more of a challenge.

I'm sure it's a huge challenge - and I'm hopeful that they aren't up to it - but that doesn't mean they aren't trying.  I do not trust the Chinese government any further than I could throw a tractor-trailer.
