Colleges Offer Safe Spaces, Counseling After Rittenhouse Acquittal
November 24, 2021 By Spencer Lindquist

A wide array of colleges have condemned the acquittal of Kyle Rittenhouse and advertised safe spaces and counseling services in response to the “not guilty” verdict, according to emails posted to Twitter.

Numerous academic institutions contacted their students regarding the verdict via mass emails, including Vanderbilt, UC Irvine, Stanford Medicine, Columbia Business School, Ohio University, San Francisco State University, and several others.

Other schools, including New York University, Pepperdine University, and Loyola Marymount University also released their own statements following the verdict.

The Office of the President at Rosemont College sent out an email that called the verdict another example of the “systemic racism that divides our society,” while an email from UC Irvine claimed the verdict sent the message that “Neither Black lives nor those of their allies’ matter.”

Just finishing the job liberal parents started, it's all about little Johnny and Jennies feeeeeeeeliiiings and nothing to do with reality and learning to accept and cope with things we disagree with. I am seeing this first hand with my son and DIL(of course she has a Masters in early child development), the kid misbehaves and it's all about how the kid is feeling, send her to her room for a time out and of course she throws a tantrum. Does mommy ignore it and let the kid get over it? Oh hell no, mommy has to go in and soothe her. They are doing a great job of raising a manipulative future liberal who expects everyone to give her her way. But what do I know I'm not a recipient of liberal higher educat....,er, indoctrination.

Why is it the role of any college or university to question the integrity of a jury trial?  By suggesting that a trial delivered the wrong outcome aren't these universities damaging the Constitutional concepts of due process and trial by a jury of one's peers?  These institutions are destroying some of the most fundamental rights we have as free people.  Can we tolerate these kinds of challenges to foundational concepts necessary to individual freedom and the rule of law?

What would happen if a college or university questioned the integrity of an election in the same way?

Completely agree @HoustonSam . And aside from that...once these people get to college are they not supposed to be treated as adults to prepare them for life? They aren't kindergarteners for crying out loud.

"Safe spaces" reinforce the ridiculous notion that hearing an opinion we don't like harms us.  The entire concept of education is overturned by such an absurdity.  Colleges and universities, of all places, are not supposed to protect people from ideas and opinions, in fact they are supposed to expose people intentionally to a diverse set of ideas and opinions.

There simply is no other way for someone to become educated.  But we long ago transformed "education" to credentialism; having done so, we denied the university its basis for protecting a diversity of ideas, and it has now become a hothouse for woke, progressive orthodoxy.

The colleges are taking this in loco parentis business just a smidge too far. Nothing good ever comes of treating over-18s like children.
