William Shatner is set to board Jeff Bezos’ Blue Origin New Shepard rocket next month, according to TMZ, becoming the oldest man to ever fly into space. The 15-minute flight, and the run-up to it, are being filmed for a documentary that’s currently being shopped to a number of outlets, with one deal reportedly in negotiations.

It’s unknown who else will be aboard the mission, and it’s unclear how much the Star Trek star had to pay to join the intergalactic crew (the last flight’s final seat went for over $20 million at auction). The rocket was previously launched in July with four passengers, including Bezos and his brother.

Shatner has not been shy about his desire to fly into outer space. In May of last year, he tweeted out a mocked-up image of him in an astronaut suit, encouraging NASA to send him out. “BTW @NASA - just in case; the suit does fit!” he wrote.

William Shatner will go to space with Blue Origin

William Shatner might soon be saying, "Beam me up" on a real-life intergalactic trip — the "Star Trek" actor is poised to join the next space flight on Jeff Bezos's Blue Origin.

The 90-year-old performer, who played Captain Kirk on the long-running series, will fly on New Shepard NS-18 next week along with Blue Origin's vice president of mission and flight operations Audrey Powers, the company announced Monday.

Two other crewmates will also be onboard for the Oct. 12 flight launching from a site in West Texas.

“I’ve heard about space for a long time now," Shatner said in a statement about the trip. "I’m taking the opportunity to see it for myself. What a miracle."

Shatner's expedition would make him the oldest person to have ever flown in space. He would top a record set in July by Wally Funk, who at 82 became the oldest person to launch into space when she traveled with Bezos and two other passengers on a rocket and capsule created by the Amazon founder's space tourism venture, Blue Origin.

Me too! He may be a Canuck import but he's one of the few that usually stays out of our politics....usually unless it's a conservative President.

From a Fox interview: “I don’t want to discuss Trump or [George] Takei,” the 86-year-old actor told The Daily Beast. “Listen, I’m Canadian and I’m apolitical. I love America. I consider myself a guest here. I won’t do anything that might get me deported.”

And then he followed with this after Trump was elected: “Today, in this society, we have alien life forms that we call trolls,” said the 80-year-old. “And these trolls carry on without knowing what they’re talking about… and some of these trolls go on to become presidents of nations.”

Takei added Trump is no different than the “trolls” who have criticized “Star Trek’s” more diverse cast.

Yep when Roddenberry ran the series line by cast... Where no man has gone before. Takei took that as. a literal challenge.

It would be difficult to even begin to estimate how many people that show inspired to think beyond these mortal coils on Earth.

True,and ironically enough,Shatner may be THE worse actor I have ever seen. Still,that doesn't matter. What matters is he was in a position to infleuence children all over the world and build an interest in space flight. I have no doubt that a few of these children ended up working for NASA as adults.
