Joe Biden Extends Student Debt Freeze Until January 2022

Charlie Spiering 6 Aug 2021

President Joe Biden’s administration announced Friday that they would extend the freeze on federal student loan debt until January 31, 2022.

The Department of Education made the announcement, extending the freeze on federal loan payments that were set to expire at the end of September.

All federal student loans will continue to be frozen with a zero percent interest rate.

“As our nation’s economy continues to recover from a deep hole, this final extension will give students and borrowers the time they need to plan for restart and ensure a smooth pathway back to repayment,” Education Secretary Miguel Cardona said in a statement to reporters.

The president moved quickly to extend the moratorium, dodging a likely protest from the socialist Democrat wing of the party.

Biden bungled his handling of the end of the housing eviction moratorium, as the socialist Democrats protested his decision not to issue another edict after the courts ruled it as unconstitutional.

Why can't I get money to buy electronics, vacations, booze and cars and pay zero interest too? Also why the hell have I been paying rent when I could have spent the money on cars or boats with no worry about being evicted! Damn my parent for raising me with morals and ethics!

Unlike a college education, those items are actually worth something.

A big finger to all those who saved up and worked their way through college instead of going into debt.

My situation is a little different. I made my sons take out loans for college with the promise that I would pay them off if they graduated. If they didn't graduate they would have to pay off their loans. They held up their end of the deal and when my older son graduated I immediately paid off his loans. However, when my younger son graduated we started hearing this forgiveness of the loans garbage. I don't think it's right to forgive the loans, but if they do it so be it.

I really think the ones who should be reimbursing loans are the Universities. They have been giving degrees to people who can't even think for themselves, let alone critically.

I do understand and good you helped out.  That is why God planted parents into the lives of children.

IMHO, to forgive ANY student loan is just taking money from me and others who are responsible taxpayers and giving it to others.  I am not in favor of ANY forgiveness unless the people who actually paid off their college education are reimbursed first.

There is merit for the government to perhaps lend a hand in certain situations, for example under the GI bill when a soldier serves honorably and gets the tuition.  I can think that maybe even a small list of certain essential and useful degrees might be something the government could participate in, such as engineering or such.

I would control tightly any list of degrees having government participation though, so idiocy like degrees in CRT or African Basket Weaving are excluded, as they do not contribute to the common good.

Correctamundo.

I'm with you 100%!

I think the real solution is no govt loans except for GI's. Let the Universities finance their students.
