Kathy Griffin revealed she has lung cancer despite “never” smoking and will be undergoing surgery to have half of her left lung removed.

The comedian announced the news Monday morning in a lengthy note posted to social media, sharing that the cancer is stage 1 and “contained.”

“I’ve got to tell you guys something. I have cancer. I’m about to go into surgery to have half of my left lung removed,” she began her letter on social media. “Yes, I have lung cancer even though I’ve never smoked! The doctors are very optimistic as it is stage one and contained to my left lung.” ... Full story

It's a myth that all lung cancer is caused by smoking.  Certainly, smoking can aggravate a predisposition toward developing a mutation that becomes lung cancer, and can also aggravate a pre-existing noncancerous issue into cancer, but there are quite a few people who develop lung cancer without even having been exposed to much second-hand smoke.

It's in the nature of lung cells, unfortunately.

My mother smoked since she was 12 years old. Died at 80 of dementia.
And yet, Griffin, Andy Kaufman, get lung cancer without ever smoking regularly.
It is, really it is all about genetics.

If you are prone to it, smoking may trigger something which would likely happen anyway.

As I recall, Carol Burnett's non-smoker daughter died in the 30s of lung cancer.

My great grandfather was a carpenter who never smoked. He died of lung cancer. It happens.

Surely they mean never smoking cigarettes just as I'm sure that if anyone said good she deserves it, you know the same way she jokingly says Conservatives deserve to die there would be a huge outcry from the left calling it hate speech. It's not hate speech Kathy when I say I hope you have a long painful death......it's just a joke.

But much more than just Trump. She made her career slamming various people, mostly Hollywood people.
There is a lot of hate coming her way, from hundreds of people of all kinds.

No, she's not particularly funny. I remember a guest role she had on "Seinfeld," and she was just plain irritating. Whatever type of TV show she's on, she's just annoying and irritating. Not funny. Heck of a way to make a living as a comedian, I'd think.

I never smoked, but my husband did. 9 years.  We didn't know about second hand or third hand smoke!  Most people smoked at parties. In the office! BACK THEN.  Casinos.  Grocery stores.  WE ALL..."SMOKED".  My ex is on oxygen. Emphazima   sp? I have a bit in my lungs.  NEVER SMOKED, did nothing illegal...no pot. Right now, in my home, others go outside to smoke...IT COMES INTO MY HOME!  Ugh.

"Home from the hospital and greeted by my board certified medical PAWfessional recovery pack," Griffin tweeted along with a video of her dogs jumping on her lap.  ...

The article further states that she was addicted to pills and tried to taker he own life. Nope, I don't care for her, but she was on a tough road to begin with and now going through surgery for lung cancer. Hopefully she'll recover and perhaps have a little different perspective.

This is taking a lot for me to say, but I wish her well and God Bless you Kathy Griffin.
