If what the CDC says is true—and we have plenty of reason to doubt that—would the Delta variant's increased viral load also have the effect of more easily overwhelming what little defense a droplet mask would provide? We need to see some more proof on efficacy of a mask, and especially a mask mandate, on reducing spread... especially since last year showed that the efficacy is incredibly weak, because most of the spread happens in places you cannot enforce a mandate (the home), and even disregarding spread in the home, the next-leading location of spread is... the hospital, where masks are worn religiously and properly, and are even at N95 standards most times.
