You are right @sneakypete  our Republic is deteriorating rapidly.  I don't forsee this country making it to another election.

Predictable excuses and sob stories.
We began by choosing Washington, Adams, Jefferson, Madison and Monroe.
Two centuries later, our choices were Bush, Clinton, Obama, Trump and Biden.
Then we hear; "Omigod, we are the greatest; how can this be happening?????"
Nation/states receive the leadership they tolerate, then choose.
Decline commences from below w/loss of vision and values; later fall
occurs, from the top down, w/the disintegration of the moral order, the
adhesive that bonds the disparate elements of culture/society.
History repeats this tale w/regularity since Eden, yet many are shocked. Hmm.....
