I read somewhere in the past few months, that these critters are mainly in the northwestern states. Have not seen any here in north Texas.
Back when I was a kid of about 10 living in Michigan, there was a swarm in Chicago. I never saw a Cicada swarm, but we did have the locusts late every summer (a noise one doesn't forget). 17 years later I was well out of Michigan, and living in the Sonora Desert.
Now I'm in the Mojave Desert and there are neither Cicadas nor Locusts.
