Millions of Americans are not getting the second doses of their Covid-19 vaccines, and their ranks are growing.

More than five million people, or nearly 8 percent of those who got a first shot of the Pfizer or Moderna vaccines, have missed their second doses, according to the most recent data from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. That is more than double the rate among people who got inoculated in the first several weeks of the nationwide vaccine campaign.

Even as the country wrestles with the problem of millions of people who are wary about getting vaccinated at all, local health authorities are confronting an emerging challenge of ensuring that those who do get inoculated are doing so fully.

The reasons vary for why people are missing their second shots. In interviews, some said they feared the side effects, which can include flulike symptoms. Others said they felt that they were sufficiently protected with a single shot.

Those attitudes were expected, but another hurdle has been surprisingly prevalent. A number of vaccine providers have canceled second-dose appointments because they ran out of supply or didn’t have the right brand in stock.

Yes, the Shingrix vaccine is a two-dose regimen. I had a mildly sore arm for a couple of days. Mrs. PeteS had similar for her first dose, but much more sore and for several days with her second dose.

As with many other things, the millions who have received one of the Covid vaccines with only moderate or mild side effects won't make the news. Those millions are invisible because they are boring and don't contribute to thge MSM's Panic Porn.But people are free to choose.

I had flu-like symptoms after the first shot, and I understand they will be worse for the second one.  If not for the fact that I intend to travel internationally this summer, I might have decided to forego the second one.

Yeah, Shingrix is two doses. I had a reaction to the second dose of that too. Sore arm, a little fever and generally felt tired.

Why?  For the same reason one gets any vaccine:  rational risk assessment.  Only the J&J and Oxford vaccines have shown potentially lethal side-effects and those happen at a rate of about one in a million, while the same sort of blood clotting happens in about 20 per million COVID cases.  And getting sick anyways is different from dying from respiratory failure or ending up in an ICU for a long stretch to get cured, neither of which happens to people who get the vaccine, and both of which happen to some people who catch COVID.

The morning after receiving the 2nd Pfizer vaccine my mom awakened completely unable to move. She described feeling paralyzed. Not even able to call out to her husband for help.  He just thought she was sleeping in.....until it was almost time for lunch and realized something was wrong!   Gradually the feeling came back in her extremities but then an intense sharp pain beginning in her toes slowly inched it's way up one leg at a time, then one arm at a time, followed by her torso and into her head, where she had a throbbing headache. It has taken over a month to be able to do things around the house that she was able to do prior to the vaccine...and she still gets fatigued easily and has brain fog she didn't have prior! I'm an RN. I'm not taking this vaccine!

Jim..I NEVER DEFER to any doctor.  I listen to what thy have to say and make up my own mind, BUT NEVER , NEVER LISTEN to them.  I consider it.  If I had listened, I would have had a tonsillectomy, hysterectomy, and the WRONG breast taken for a sample!  It was left, they put on paper it was RIGHT side. Oh my gosh. I was 28, the doctor said I needed a hysterectomy.  He scheduled it, before I even had a change to speak with husband or think it over!  Like the next day!  Then when I got divorced from this man, I didn't 'need' a  hysterectomy.  Now, if it was medically needed, it should be the same before and after.  It wasn't. I still have all my parts.  To this day.
Menopause cured me.  The tonsillectomy.  Still have them. Doctor said, he would do all three of us at discount!  My two kids and me.  You trust doctors?  My mammogram showed NO CANCER.  A needle biopsy came back NEGATIVE.  Doctor said, probably some scar  tissue.  ( I had no surgery or anything done before).  I thought about it, then decided to have lump removed and remove ALL DOUBT. It came back as cancer.  I have more stories like this.  Making my point.

Under doctors care, 7 months pregnant.  I was in pain,I said it woucl be my appendix.  He sent me home. I laid around for about a week in pain. My appendix RUPTURED, I went into labor.  I could not have any drugs, for fear of harming early baby birth!  BOTH of us almost died. In fact,  I was, except for some good nurses!  Everything was shutting down.
