No offense but rooting for one team over another isn't  the smartest thing to do for a politician running nationally.

Walker isn't running nationally.

Not that I am aware of.  Is there an upcoming race that he has filed for?

Let's see....   We got some serious shit going on here... Like I said Yuri's still getting hate mail from the Asian American Community, Yordan's former agent put a hex on his bat,  and he needs a bucket of chicken fingers from Cane's to ward off the spell.  Alex's shrink just diagnosed him with PTSD from visuals of  baseballs that are strarting to look like BB's at the plate.  Jose's wife just called him small last night, and he's not sure of the context, and Carlos...  he still can't get his watch fixed. Plus we got 50 thousand F***ing people booing us and calling us cheaters.  Like I said.....   We got some serious shit going on.

The one unforgivable sin of baseball - walking a batter with the bases loaded.

Snitker should not have walked them loaded in the 5th.  Big mistake.

Oh my goodness, what a wild game! Maldonado was totally the MVP, and came up huge right when they needed him. I will never understand people who say baseball is boring.

I've been saying for years that all I wanted for my birthday was a Braves World Series, and although last night's game didn't end the way I was hoping I still have birthday cake left and as long as there is cake left, it still counts as part of the birthday celebration.  There's still hope yet!!

Well, we're still up three games to two.  But then again, this is the Braves we are talking about.

The fact that a corporately owned team made it this far is a miracle upon itself.  Ted Turner had a huge ego and was willing to take a financial loss for a team win.  But there is no way in hell they would be in this position if Time Warner was calling the shots.

Yep.  All-in-all, I'd still rather be in our position than in Houston's right now.

Martin "Machete" Maldonado only gets a hit like once or twice a week, but when he does, they are usually in clutch situations.

Believe it or not, I used to be one of those people! I was an NFL fan, but Kaepernick did me a big favor. Without his jackassery, I didn't think I could walk away from pro football. I was wrong. I love my country more than I do football, and when NFL allowed them to be unpatriotic, I walked away. But I got to baseball "accidentally." When the Astros made it to the World Series, it was right after Harvey, so I watched my first World Series as a way to bring some joy into the misery of the times. And here I am 4 years later understanding a little more about the game as time goes on. I didn't intend to stay with baseball. Just was going to watch the World Series. As you can see, that didn't work out as planned.  wink777

P.S. I nearly walked away after the cheating scandal. I was so hurt. But I dug in and read, listened to baseball aficionados discuss the scandal and the history of cheating, studied all the cheating methods over the decades, etc. Even observing the haters (like TDS sufferers, but fewer in number) taught me a lot. I learned the most from those who have been steeped in the game for years (ex-players, announcers, managers, long-time fans, etc.) who had no predisposition to defend the Astros. I reached my own conclusion that, since it hadn't taken the world off its axis as some reactions would indicate, I could start over with them and learn to love them again. So here I am waiting like a kid at Christmas for Game 6. And I do love my 'Stros!  :yowsa:

How Martín Maldonado's time scouring film paid off in Game 5

https://www.houstonchronicle.com/texas-sports-nation/astros/article/How-Mart-n-Maldonado-s-time-scouring-film-paid-16581152.php
Quote
A decision of understandable logic quickly backfired and turned a World Series game on its head. In the fifth inning with a 5-4 Atlanta lead, Braves manager Brian Snitker instructed reliever A.J. Minter to intentionally walk Alex Bregman, bringing up Martín Maldonado with the bases loaded and two outs.

Glancing at Maldonado’s batting stats this postseason, it probably seemed like a safe move. But those inside the Astros dugout knew that this was Maldy, a man revered by his teammates and coaches for his attention to detail, a Gold Glove catcher who spends evenings on the road in his hotel room scouring film.

Minter had faced the Astros in Games 1 and 3 of the World Series. Maldonado knew his repertoire. He had no intention of swinging before two strikes.

“No, not at all,” Maldonado later admitted with a smile. “I know he likes that cutter inside. I got on the plate to take that pitch out.”

Maldonado crowded the plate like a Little Leaguer, daring Minter. The pitcher’s first two offerings were cutters on opposite sides of the plate, both balls. Maldonado watched a fastball sail by for strike one. Minter tried another cutter, this one over the middle and below the zone. Maldonado did not budge. On the next pitch he pushed his bat forward almost like he was going to bunt, but the fastball flew inside for ball four.

Maldonado dropped his bat and started down the line. Carlos Correa trotted home from third base as the game-tying run, the final time the score would be knotted in the Astros’ eventual 9-5 Game 5 victory.

“Did you guys notice how close he was to the plate on the at-bat against Minter?” Correa said, barely able to contain his delight. “You guys notice? That was sick.”

Wow - after all of the talented squads of the past 30 years, I simply cannot believe this is the year.  No Acuna, Morton, Ozuna, or Soroka.  Simply an amazing postseason run.

There's no team I would rather have lost to than Atlanta. I watched them defeat the Dodgers, and they did it with great heart. And then there's the yanked All-Star Game thing.  :yowsa:

Seeing them war path chanting 7 runs up at MMP at the end did make respect the ATL fans a tad less though.

BTW did I hear some Lets Go Brandon mixed in tonight?
