Dept of Energy Blocked Texas from Increasing Power Ahead of Killer Storm
February 27, 2021 by Robert

I think the federal government should be paying the outrageous power bills that Texans are now receiving as a result of this catastrophic bureaucratic blunder.

A week before the storm, Texas begged for help and asked for Department of Energy to lift federal regulations barring state’s energy output.

However, an Emergency Order from the Biden administration’s Department of Energy shows Texas energy grid operator ERCOT was instructed to stay within green energy standards by purchasing energy from outside the state at a higher cost. This throttled power output throughout the state ahead of the catastrophic polar vortex.

How many times is this lie going to be posted?

It has been proven false over and over...

If one reads all the way to the bottom, one will find that the US Department of Energy granted ERCOT's request, the same day the request was submitted.

And whom did they tell about granting the request?  If a tree falls in the forest, and nobody is there to hear it, does it make a sound?

Too clever by half.

The same that made the request.

We have real problems that need real solutions.  These falsehood and deception just take away effort and focus from the actual problems.  This crap will leave us in the same position next time.

It's become a political football, and if you have any ideas to fix that, I'm all ears.  The Rats have been pulling this crap longer than I can remember.

How about for starters, stop focusing on the politics and the blame game and start efforts on solutions?

And a simple place to start is take the recommendations from that last time this happened, 2011 (smaller storm, smaller outages) and work on the many items that did not get done.  Even if we only cut the losses in half, it would be a massive improvement letting us rotate outages instead of holding them for 3 days.

Quote
...As millions of Texans endured days without power and water, experts and news organizations pointed to unheeded warnings in a federal report that examined the 2011 winter storm and offered recommendations for preventing future problems. The report by the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission and the North American Electric Reliability Corporation concluded, among other things, that power companies and natural gas producers hadn’t properly readied their facilities for cold weather, including failing to install extra insulation, wind breaks and heaters.

Another federal report released three years later made similar recommendations with few results. Lawmakers also failed to pass measures over the past two decades that would have required the operator of the state’s main power grid to ensure adequate reserves to shield against blackouts, provided better representation for residential and small commercial consumers on the board that oversees that agency and allowed the state’s top emergency-planning agency to make sure power plants were adequately “hardened” against disaster...

I see folks like you and I should be focusing our discussion and calls for pressure legislature on why they did not require or incentive winterization of many recommendations that were ignored.

And it feels like all the focus is electric supply when water, nat gas, food, etc had major problems.

And the other reason i HATE the stupid blame game of who needs to be fired is it takes away the understanding that damn near everyone, including me, had serious lack of preparation for this event.  We were told in advance it was coming.  But most would not focus on the expected problems.  If everyone did more to be prepared, instead of expecting to be taken care of by others, we would have less deaths, less damages and faster recoveries.
