Tiger Woods involved in Los Angeles car crash, first-responders needed 'jaws of life' to remove him
Woods was injured in the crash and is currently in surgery, according to his agent

Tiger Woods was injured in a serious car crash Tuesday and needed to be extricated from his vehicle with the "jaws of life," the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department said.

Woods was the sole occupant in the crash near the Rolling Hills Estates and Rancho Palos Verdes neighborhoods of Los Angeles. Officials said the crash occurred at around 7:12 a.m. and the vehicle sustained "major damage."

"The vehicle was traveling northbound on Hawthorne Boulevard, at Blackhorse Road, when it crashed. The vehicle sustained major damage," officials said. "The driver and sole occupant was identified as PGA golfer, Eldrick 'Tiger' Woods. Mr. Woods was extricated from the wreck with the 'jaws of life' by Los Angeles County firefighters and paramedics, then transported to a local hospital by ambulance for his injuries."

It is unclear what caused the accident. Police said that they are investigating.

    Woods, 45, is in a Los Angeles hospital undergoing surgery for 'multiple leg injuries', his agent confirmed
    The golfer crashed the Genesis GV80 he'd been given for the week at 7.12am on Tuesday morning
    The car rolled multiple times and Woods had to be pried from the wreckage by firefighters using jaws of life
    The golfer lives in Florida but was in L.A. to host the PGA Genesis Invitational over the weekend
    Genesis loaned him the car to use while he was in Los Angeles, sources tell DailyMail.com
    After the tournament, Woods stayed behind to film with stars Jada Pinkett Smith, David Spade and Dwayne Wade for GolfTV
    The stars shared photos and videos of their golf lessons with the sporting star on social media on Monday
    Woods was arrested in 2017 after crashing his car in Jupiter, Florida, while drunk
    The cause of Tuesday's crash is not yet known but LA Sheriff's Department detectives are investigating

Tiger Woods in surgery after vehicle rolls over in crash

LOS ANGELES -- Golf star Tiger Woods was injured Tuesday in a vehicle rollover in Los Angeles County.

"Tiger Woods was in a single-car accident this morning in California where he suffered multiple leg injuries," his agent Mark Steinberg said. "He is currently in surgery and we thank you for your privacy and support."

Woods had to be extricated from the vehicle with the Jaws of Life tools, the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department said in a statement.

The vehicle sustained major damage, the sheriff's department said.

A KABC-TV helicopter over the scene of Woods' accident showed a car on its side with the front end heavily damaged. Air bags appeared to be deployed. The wreckage appeared to be just off the side of a road on a hillside.

Woods, whose first name is Eldrick, was the sole occupant of the vehicle, the sheriff's department said.

Per a live report: Accident reconstructionists find debris but no skid marks. 

Wow.  He must have been flying as he rolled.

Tiger's also recovering from back surgery he had about a month ago.

Some folks from the area have noted that it's a winding road, and you have to maintain a cautious speed. I'm guessing either he was going too fast or was distracted, e.g., iPhone.

I'm really taking a leap here but he also could have been on pain meds due to his back surgery.

The absence of pre-impact skid marks makes me wonder if he was even awake.
