Ok, I'm gonna say it... clearly and concisely... lest it be misunderstood.
F#CK the optics. We just had an election stolen right out from under us by the same aholes that are bleating against Cruz for rescuing his family from a 30-degree freezing house...by escorting them to a warm, nice place. I personally don't give a $hit what the optics are and Cruz doesn't either. I respect him (for that) even more now than I already did. And to anyone that prefers to bash Cruz and demonize him for his choices, considering how royally we on the right have been screwed... I sincerely say GFY!!!
If you're making the point that the theft of our government is way worse than Cruz going to Cancun, I hope you know by now you don't need to fight that fight, at least not with me. But, these two events, the theft and the travel, are apples and oranges.
For what I hope is the last time, here's my view, hoping I don't continue to be misunderstood: Cruz effed up. Period. And he made it worse my having to "confess" he was not dropping the family off in Cancun --- that he originally planned to stay through the weekend. (Text message from Heidi became public and forced his hand on this.) He also admitted this was a mistake and that he should have stayed "on the ground".
Do I wish the media, et al would give Republicans a fair shake? Sure. Do I expect it? No. No Republican should expect it. All we can do in this political climate, if we're smart, is plan accordingly. Cruz did not.
I certainly don't underestimate Cruz's need to get his family safely warm. But there's a place called Florida, and it doesn't require a passport and has some equally nice hotels as Cancun. Or what about bunking with family? He just didn't think this through.
So, yes, the optics are terrible because for one thing, his jetting off to a tropical paradise during the worst winter catastrophe in the state's history is the height of elitism. But even worse than the elitism is the man who needs help in this area missed the opportunity to provide moral support for the people of his beloved Texas --- nothing strengthens a political bond like a shared disaster.
Lastly, it's kindda tough to beat on the thief for not caring about Texans when its Jr. Senator just said, "Seeya, I'm outta here".
Blame it on whiny kids, a bitching wife, piss poor advisors, brain freeze from the cold, or whatever else you'd like --Ted Cruz chose poorly.
I'm sure this, too, will pass from the news The bad taste left with his constituents and potential donors may take longer.
RIV is over and out on Cancungate.
