People have to remember.... Cruz is a legislator.... Not an administrator. If he was governor, mayor, or heading an agency directly involved in the event, we'd have reason to scream.
Oh, for heavens sake, stop saying this is okay, even the optics, because Cruz is irrelevant to finding a solution for the people of Texas. This is not very helpful for the man's stature.
This is a crisis gone to waste. It would have been a perfect opportunity for Cruz to fortify his "man of the people" cred --- to be seen rolling up his sleeves and meeting with the Governor, helping out stranded people while deriding the causes and promising to work with the Governor on solutions.
Or, he could have done nothing but send tweets reminding Texans to stay safe.
Instead, the left has a shiny object to draw attention away from Global Warming and the Green New Deal, and Cruz has painted himself into a tighter corner as an out-of-touch elitist, while Beto the gigolo multimillionaire, is the man of the people.
