WINONA, Texas (KETK) – 1 person is dead after a shooting Sunday morning at the Starrville Methodist Church in Winona.

While Smith County authorities have not released news of the death, Gov. Abbott’s office released a statement just after 11:30 a.m. ...

The shooter was apprehended. Facts still are scarce.

Edit:  Pastor reportedly killed.

Shooter had fled police the night before for some offense, and apparently hid out in the church overnight. Then:

He said the pastor pulled out a firearm and told the person to stop, but the person did not listen and lunged at the pastor.

The pastor, whose name has not been released, was killed.

Another person in the church was undergoing surgery Sunday at a Tyler hospital for a gunshot wound, and female was being treated for a fall injury, Smith said.  ...
