A state lawmaker is hoping to give Texans a day off after Super Bowl Sunday.
State Rep. Art Fierro, D-El Paso, filed House Bill 371, one of more than 700 bills that lawmakers have pre-filed in the lead-up to the next legislative session in January. If passed, the bill would designate the Monday following the Super Bowl as a state holiday, such as those already established for Texas Independence Day and Black Friday.
After the 2020 Super Bowl, an estimated 17.5 million Americans were expected to call out of work the next day, according to a study by the Workforce Institute at Kronos, a think tank that has been tracking the trend since 2005.
