Ratings Crash for NBA, MLB After Protest-Filled Debuts
« on: August 02, 2020, 07:36:42 pm »
Warner Todd Huston 2 Aug 2020

As the NBA and MLB return from their coronavirus-imposed hiatus, it appears TV viewers are not interested in what the increasingly woke leagues have to offer.

With both baseball and basketball draped in all sorts of Black Lives Matter and social justice symbolism for their opening games, a substantially smaller number of fans tuned-in to the rest of the week’s games.

According to Outkick.com, neither league did well.

As for the opening games, Outkick reported that the return of the NBA on TNT saw the following numbers:

Lakers-Clippers: 3.4 million
Pelicans-Jazz: 2.1 million

ESPN’s MLB return numbers were also underwhelming:

Yankees-Nationals: 4.0 million
Dodgers-Giants: 2.8 million

Outkick’s Ryan Glasspiegel added more ratings numbers on Twitter.

“To be fair since I compared MLB vs NBA return night 1, here is night 2,” (July 24) he wrote, adding:

MLB (last Friday, ESPN)
Mets-Braves (4p) – 922K
Brewers-Cubs(7p) – 1.0M
Angels-As (10p) – 797K

NBA (last night ESPN) (July 31)
Celtics-Bucks (6:30p) – 1.3M
Mavs-Rockets (9p)- 1.7M

The Athletic’s Ethan Strauss also noted that the numbers continued to fall off for MLB:

Mr. M wanted to watch some of last night's games, just to root against a couple of teams he can't stand. Thankfully, they lost. LeBron was a big balding whiney baby. Same ol' same ol'.

I mean honestly...WTF did they think was going to happen?  Does the NBA and MLB honestly think the majority of Americans back this crap?

If they do then they've seriously miscalculated their audience and just how many find this disrespectful how towing to Marxist ideology is not something most Americans and their fan base will readily accept.

It doesn't help that people are sick and tired of being told to stay at home. So they're outside, away from their TV sets. It's August.

Rockets just beat the Bucks (best record in the NBA).  Apparently Black guys that can shot matter (to me anyway).

People judge the world from inside their bubble. Some bubbles are bigger than others. But they don't realize the "Poor downtrodden basketball player with a huge contract" bit just doesn't play well with the $20 and under/hour crowd, nor for that matter, a lot of the people who have been supporting them. Start 'dissing' America, and few care to support that. Then NFL hasn't seen it hit yet, but it's coming.

I've never gotten into basketball, but the NBA, MLB, and NFL won't be watched by me, even casually. They hate the country that feeds them and its citizens, so my eyes and TV are not going to boost their ad ratings.
I am not and never have been a leftist.

I started watching a Stanley Cup game over the weekend. It was between periods and sure enough, the announcers were showing clips of Dumba*s kneeling and the other players supporting him. Of course, the announcers were all on board with what happened.
And the NHL has issued a statement supporting BLM.
I then flipped the channel.

So people don't like being brow-beaten, and prefer to watch sports to get away from the leftist bitching.  Who coulda guessed?

I've been brow-beatened by my better half for over 30 years, doubly so during the past 4 months. The last thing I need is more of it from professional athletes, most of whom barely made it out of high school. When I was their age, say 25, I was running the supply operations for an Air Defense Artillery battalion in Germany, 10 years before the Wall came down.

I will issue this caveat, though. I don't know how the Gonzaga basketball team will respond in this hyper charged environment. I will likely cut them more slack, particularly our newest arrival, Jalen Suggs. Why, because he's the highest ranked recruit to ever sign with the Zags? Hardly, it's because he comes from Minnesota, and he'll be under pressure to respond to what's occurred there. He's also 18 YO, the same age as my youngest son, and I recall (faintly) what it's like to be that age.

You can avoid reality, but you cannot avoid the consequences of avoiding reality.

I can only surmise that there are thousands, if not millions, of people out there that see the hypocrisy demonstrated by the NBA, in particular. I'm outraged at the constant barrage of the BLM memes, while simultaneously being mute over the human rights abuses by China, as pertains to Hong Kong and the slave labor used to produce their products.

Hear A Dog Whistle? It’s LeBron, Democrats Exploiting George Floyd The Way Republicans Exploited Willie Horton
by Jason Whitlock
Quote
LeBron James’ enthusiastic, headfirst dive into politics is at the root of my aversion to the NBA star.

Wednesday, James returned to the presidential campaign trail when a reporter asked him about President Donald Trump’s statement that he turns off his television when he sees NBA players supporting Black Lives Matter and kneeling during the national anthem.

“I really don’t think the basketball community are sad about losing viewership, him viewing the game,” James told NBA bubble reporters. “And that’s all I got to say.”

Of course, James’ grammatical and political eloquence did not stop there. The More Than An Athlete activist stumped for voters.  ...

George Floyd is the star of this election cycle. James and NBA players want to make Breonna Taylor, a black Louisville woman killed in a failed police drug sting, Floyd’s vice presidential running mate.

It’s all divisive racial politics devoid of truth.

James is pretending to be a warrior for social justice reform, feigning concern for Floyd, Taylor, Ahmaud Arbery and their families. The concern is disingenuous because the real agenda is political power. Floyd, Taylor and Arbery are political pawns who won’t be brought back to life by the election of Joe Biden or any politician. ...

Overall a very good column, but incomplete in one respect: Al Gore introduced everybody to Willie Horton before the Bush campaign jumped on it.

And it's not just the human rights abuses in China that they are hypocrites about.   It's also the massive amount of air pollution China produces (or produced 'before' the Covid-19 release).   One would think, to only hear the radical left in America.... that America is the only nation that releases "CO2" into the air.   It wasn't that long ago that you could see, on any given day in China, the Chinese people wearing masks to and from work.... solely because of the air pollution problem.

Which brings to mind another question.  If the Chinese people already were wearing masks as a general rule, and if masks really work against Covid-19.... how could the ChiComs justify all of the deaths that supposedly occurred due to the virus there?  It doesn't add up.

James has earned about half a billion dollars bouncing a basketball and is on course to make a billion. Yet, he never misses a chance to run down the country that has made him wealthy beyond most people's wildest dreams.
He's a great basketball player but a lousy human being.

Those who prefer golf and watching grass grow will not be spared virtue signaling so popular these days.

I was watching last week and there was a young attractive white lady with an announcement. It seems golf had famous people that awards are named after. Golf has passed out awards despite their impure thoughts of these formerly famous people on today's color issue. It appears that today's standards do not accept historical standards. This has been reported nearly non stop during and instead of showing the sport.

That specific award is being renamed so golf can get into their virtue signaling act. So. Scratch golf with the other silly games that people scratch a comfortable life from. There was no report about collecting and destroying the awards that had been passed out before. I eagerly look forward to that report.

Get these racist commentators and the athletes a real 40 hour a week job doing something worthwhile. Imaging adults playing sports with a ball and tying up the TV with other adults talking about it.

I look forward to the new black only athletes golf so they can properly compete with the other racist sports of football and basketball. I won't be watching golf either. Tiger Woods is not race card approved as Tiger is a person who is not pure black.

Those who prefer golf and watching grass grow will not be spared virtue signaling so popular these days.
It's happened. There's a pro golfer named Cameron Champ who "identifies" as black because one of his grandfathers is black. He's playing this week (thankfully, near the bottom of the leaderboard), wearing one black shoe and one white shoe with the message "Remember Breonna Taylor" written on it.

Which brings to mind another question.  If the Chinese people already were wearing masks as a general rule, and if masks really work against Covid-19.... how could the ChiComs justify all of the deaths that supposedly occurred due to the virus there?  It doesn't add up.
If masks work, then why do we need social distancing?
If social distancing works, then why do we need masks?
I'm no doctor but still think that Fauci and his Democrat masters are full of crap.
Fauci wants to keep COVID going for as long as possible because he adores the fame and the power.
Democrats want to keep COVID going for as long as possible because they want to destroy the economy before the election.

None of this 'mask hysteria' has anything to do with health.
Even the Dems are admitting this now.
Wear the mask because "it is the right thing to do".
Wear the mask "to show you care".
No mention of preventing anything any more.
It is all about virtue signalling by obedience to government authority.
You cannot "COEXIST" with people who want to kill you.
If they kill their own with no conscience, there is nothing to stop them from killing you.

This week the CDC quietly updated the Covid number to admit that only 6% of all the 153,504 deaths recorded actually died from Covid.

That's 9,210 deaths. That's it. We are muzzling our children, going full commie, and headed into a world depression where millions will die from starvation or worse. All for this. Death is apart of life. And what's the point of trying to save life if we can't even live our lives?

The other 94% had 2 to 3 other serious illnesses and the overwhelming majority were of very advanced age; 90% in nursing homes.

Let's do our civil duty and include NASCAR in the boycott.

Seventeen Techniques for Truth Suppression

Of all tyrannies, a tyranny sincerely exercised for the good of its victims may be the most oppressive. It would be better to live under robber barons than under omnipotent moral busybodies. The robber baron's cruelty may sometimes sleep, his cupidity may at some point be satiated; but those who torment us for our own good will torment us without end for they do so with the approval of their own conscience.

Done. Actually, done long before this, because I have no interest in it.
