The Trump administration is brokering a $765 million loan to Kodak for the U.S. film giant to begin manufacturing pharmaceutical drugs, in hopes of breaking foreign supply chain reliance, the White House said Tuesday.

Under the deal, Kodak is creating a new manufacturing line called Kodak Pharmaceuticals with the aim of shifting offshore prescription drug production back to the United States. The loan under the Defense Production Act, is meant to reduce what the White House called "our dangerous reliance on foreign drug manufacturing."

On Tuesday, the White House noted that the administration has invoked the Defense Production Act more than 30 times to boost U.S. supplies needed to confront the coronavirus pandemic, including the manufacturing of ventilators, personal protective equipment, testing supplies, pharmaceutical products and more.

At this point, this appears to be unrelated to producing Covid-19 vaccines.

Yes.  Getting us self-sufficient, again.  I support using our tax dollars for our well being.  Go to WASTE IN GOV.. and you will see some ignorant grants, given to people, to study ANTS in the Himalayans.  Watching a shrimp on treadmill.  Watching grass grow. That grant was only for $10,000. TAX PAYER dollars, but billions have been spent on silly grants,  BEFORE POTUS TRUMP.  How a man feels with a gun or without.  If mom's love their pets, dogs, better than kids. Millions spent on a road, that meets a dead end.  OR. IRS party cost millions, paid by tax dollars.  Might as well spend it on something good like this. Less for ignorant GRANTS.  No doubt, we still have to honor old contracts on GRANTS. Also, spending on our national security by vamping up military and taking care of Veterans. Trump reroutes pharmaceutical manufacturing from China to New York Kodak plant

The Trump administration has awarded Kodak a $765 million government loan under the Defense Production Act to help speed the domestic manufacturing of certain medical drugs.

A new division, Kodak Pharmaceuticals, is expected to create 350 jobs, senior administration officials said during a call with reporters Tuesday. The move is billed as part of a larger effort to secure a United States supply of critical pharmaceutical ingredients and modernize the Strategic National Stockpile.

The U.S. International Development Finance Corporation, the agency that engineered the deal, has been working with the Department of Defense to relocate important supply chains out of China for months at the president's direction.

Billed as the first of many such deals, Trump officials are calling it a win for President Trump's "America First" doctrine.

"It's a big win for the Defense Production Act," said Development Finance Corporation CEO Adam Boehler on the call. "It's a big win for New York. It's a big, big win for blue-collar jobs."

Boehler, a member of the White House coronavirus task force, will travel to Kodak's Rochester, New York, facility, accompanied by White House Office of Trade and Manufacturing Director Peter Navarro and the Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff Rear Adm. John Polowczyk, who leads the Supply Chain Stabilization Task Force.

Touting the plan, Navarro said that it heralded "literally the industrial renaissance" of New York, notably in the Northwest, "which has been absolutely decimated by foreign competition."

At peak production, the company will be able to produce 25% of the active ingredients needed for U.S. pharmaceuticals.

This was a shocker.  I didn't even know their corporate governance was set up or configured in a manner that they could function as a pharma or pharma support company. Nothng has been mentioned or discussed as far scope of products or services, exccept as an enitity that "manufactures ingredients used in pharmaceuticals, in order to rebuild the national stockpile depleted by the COVID-19 pandemic and reduce dependency on foreign factories". <sans wiki>

Seen nothing like this pop up like this in my 40+ years of investing.  One things for sure, I'd keep an eye on had stock in this equity before two days ago.  I might be wrong, but something doesn't smell right.

Kodak Board....  No breadth or depth in Pharma. Sounds like this thing is being built from the ground up.  My question is why, when there are several up and coming U.S Mid Cap Pharma companies on the horizon who could run with this without the start up costs.  More red flags raising.

Kodak did a lot of things with chemicals, back in the days of film photography.

20 years ago is two life times in this business.  Assests, brains, and technology are gone or antiquated.  Plus very dislike industries in the first place. The only way they are going to make this thing work, is

(1) going on a mass head hunting raiding party of Engineers, R & D scientist, and other critical jobs from competitors
(2) Massive projects to construct facilities for goods.  Or purchase, sublet to others.
(3) Buy or acquire others to establish base of patents to address early earnings needs.  I am not a expert in this technology, but there would seem to need to be at least a 2-3 year startup, and opeate phase.

Again, this just seems out of kilt of how businesses in this day in age works.
