De Blasio chides police commissioner for calling city leaders 'cowards'

Mayor Bill de Blasio chided his police commissioner, Dermot Shea, for blasting lawmakers pursuing police reform measures as “cowards” who “don’t have a damn clue.”

“That language wasn’t constructive. I don’t think it’s helpful,” de Blasio told reporters.

At a crime statistics meeting last week, video of which was first published by the Daily News on Saturday, Shea tore into city leaders who have been critical of the NYPD. It’s the latest divide between de Blasio and the NYPD commissioner, who have differed on what is driving a recent spike in shootings and the merits of police reform bills de Blasio has signed.
