(Newser) – Authorities say a suspect wanted in the disappearance of a Fort Hood soldier killed himself early Wednesday—hours after remains believed to be those of Pfc Vanessa Guillen were found in a shallow grave around 30 minutes from the Texas base. Police in Killeen say the suspect, a junior soldier who fled the base late Tuesday, "displayed a weapon" and then shot and killed himself after encountering officers, ABC 13 reports. Army investigators say another suspect in the disappearance of the 20-year-old soldier, the civilian estranged wife of a former Fort Hood soldier, has been arrested and is being held in the Bell County Jail, reports the Washington Post.

Fort Hood soldier Vanessa Guillen was killed in armory, her body hacked up, family lawyer says

FORT HOOD, Texas — A missing Fort Hood soldier found buried in a shallow grave this week was bludgeoned to death with a hammer and hacked to pieces by a fellow soldier, according to a lawyer for the victim’s family.

Attorney Natalie Khawam told Army Times that SPC Vanessa Guillen, 20, was slain with a hammer April 22 inside the armory where she worked, and where her car keys, barracks room key, identification card and wallet were later found abandoned. Khawam said her information came from officials with the Army Criminal Investigation Command, or CID, who briefed the family on the evidence in the case.  ....https://www.wpxi.com/news/trending/fort-hood-soldier-vanessa-guillen-was-killed-armory-her-body-hacked-up-family-lawyer-says/5E6HIOUUFFB4HK2XDFXCO2QDYU/?fbclid=IwAR0_6hljIl1BSSFmIoN0Q8hFWMf8s7NhIOVKbqR6pjoJ2oS3cj_IRvgf8m4

American Military News  July 02, 2020 Laura Widener

The attorney for the family of slain Fort Hood soldier Vanessa Guillen revealed that Guillen was brutally murdered on duty in the armory room where she worked — at the hands of a fellow soldier.

The family’s attorney, Natalie Khawam, provided an exclusive interview to “Crime Stories with Nancy Grace,” during which she revealed the gruesome details of Guillen’s death, which she said the family learned from the Army’s Criminal Investigation Division (CID).

Khawam said Guillen learned that fellow soldier Aaron Robinson was having an affair with the estranged wife of another Fort Hood soldier. When Guillen confronted him in the armory room and said she had to report the wrongdoing, Robinson told her “no you’re not, you’re not going to ruin my career,” Khawam said.

Robinson then grabbed a nearby hammer and bludgeoned her in the head with it, Khawam said. He then placed her body in a Pelican case and removed it from the base with the help of Cecily Aguilar, the woman with whom he was having the affair.A  witness later confirmed observing Robinson struggle to load a Pelican case into a car and leave Fort Hood on the day of Guillen’s disappearance.

@rangerrebew

Isn't it unusual for serial killers to murder both men and women? Seems to me like most I have heard about murder one or the other, but not both.

But what happened? This young soldierette clubbed to death in the armory, cut into pieces, packed into a container, her remains taken away, her murderer, kills himself when authorities approach him?

Woman charged with tampering in death of Vanessa Guillen on Fort Hood base
By  Jean Lotus

July 3 (UPI) -- A new federal criminal complaint says missing soldier Pfc. Vanessa Guillen was killed by a fellow soldier at Fort Hood, Texas, and his girlfriend helped to dismember and hide the body.

Cecily Aguilar, 22, the estranged wife of a former Fort Hood soldier, is in custody in Bell County Jail in connection with the homicide of Guillen, 20, who disappeared from the base April 22. She faces charges of tampering with evidence.

Specialist David Robinson, 20, died by suicide Wednesday, shooting himself with a pistol after police confronted him about Guillen's death in Killeen, Texas. Robinson had fled Fort Hood the day before as investigators from the Army Criminal Investigation Division command closed in.

"Robinson was an armorer who worked in the building adjacent to the building where Spc. Guillen worked and he was in no way in Spc. Guillen's chain of command," said Damon Phelps, senior special agent of Fort Hood CID on Thursday.

Texas Rangers arrested Aguilar in connection with Guillen's death and said Aguilar helped Robinson dismember Guillen's body and hide the remains.  ...

Family of Vanessa Guillen says Army officials lied to them ‘every single day’ after soldier’s disappearance

American Military News  July 03, 2020 Peter Sblendorio - New York Daily News

https://americanmilitarynews.com/2020/07/family-of-vanessa-guillen-says-army-officials-lied-to-them-every-single-day-after-soldiers-disappearance/

The family of a soldier who disappeared from the Fort Hood military post in Texas months ago claims the Army lied to them “every single day” and is now calling for a congressional investigation.

Officials searching for the soldier, 20-year-old Vanessa Guillen, found human remains last week near the Leon River but have not identified yet who they belong to. Guillen’s family said Wednesday that they believe the remains to be hers, according to People.

Fellow soldier, 20-year-old Spc. Aaron Robinson, whom police attempted to speak with in connection with Guillen’s disappearance killed himself early Wednesday as officers tried to make contact with him, according to KTRK-TV.

Guillen’s family has said she was sexually harassed by her sergeant, and Army officials began an investigation into the claim last month.

“They lied to our faces every single day … which is more than two months,” Guillen’s sister, Lupe, said of Fort Hood officials during a press conference Wednesday.

Civilian charged in plot to dismember and hide remains of murdered Fort Hood soldier Vanessa Guillen
Kyle Rempfer

A Killeen, Texas, woman assisted her soldier boyfriend in disposing of a missing soldier’s body after he killed her with a hammer inside an armory on Fort Hood, according to a criminal complaint filed in the Western District Court of Texas.

Cecily Aguilar, 22, helped Spc. Aaron Robinson, 20, dispose of Spc. Vanessa Guillen’s body along the Leon River, about 30 miles from Fort Hood, after she was killed on April 22, the complaint alleged. The two worked together to burn the body, dismember it, mix the parts with concrete and bury the remains in three holes, the filing added.

Many of the details of how investigators say Guillen was killed and dismembered were first reported by Army Times on Thursday. Aguilar was charged later in the afternoon with one count of conspiracy to tamper with evidence. Robinson died from a self-inflicted gunshot wound when approached by law enforcement on Tuesday, according to Killeen police.

Eilish O'Sullivan

A former Wisconsin Air National Guard officer seemingly justified Fort Hood soldier Vanessa Guillen’s alleged sexual harassment and subsequent killing on Facebook.

“You guys are kidding, right? Sexual harassment is the price of admission for women into the good ole boy club. If you’re gonna cry like a snowflake about it, you’re gonna pay the price,” Betsy Schoeller of the Wisconsin Air Guard wrote in a comment.

I have had some seriously good friends, and even a woman or two that was several notches above the "good friend category",but I have NEVER had anyone even hint that they would like me to help them dispose of a body.

Will you help me paint my house?
Will you help me dispose of a body?
Will you give me a ride to the airport?
Will you watch my cat and plants while I'm out of town?

Woman charged with helping dispose of Vanessa Guillén remains has detention hearing

Houston Chronicle by Gabrielle Banks July 14, 2020

Cecily Aguilar, charged with helping dispose of the body of murder victim Vanessa Guillén, was held without bond in a federal detention hearing Tuesday afternoon in Waco.

Aguilar, 22, is accused of helping her boyfriend Aaron Robinson — a Fort Hood soldier authorities say killed fellow soldier Guillén — dismember Guillén’s body and bury her along the Leon River. The FBI said in court documents that Robinson bludgeoned Army Specialist Guillén to death with a hammer on April 22. There were extensive searches for the 20-year-old Houston native after she went missing that day. Robinson shot and killed himself as law enforcement officers confronted him along a Killeen road after the discovery of the remains later determined to be those of Guillén, a member of the 3rd Cavalry Regiment.

Aguilar appeared before U.S. Magistrate Judge Jeffrey C. Manske in Waco via video from the McClennan County Jail. The judge also appeared via video.

Aguilar is charged with one count of conspiring to tamper with evidence and two counts of tampering with evidence.

She is facing a maximum of 60 years in prison and a $750,000 fine if convicted.

Woman linked to Fort Hood soldier’s death pleads not guilty; bail denied

American Military News  July 15, 2020 Heather Osbourne - Austin American Statesman

Cecily Aguilar, the 22-year-old Killeen girlfriend of a Fort Hood soldier accused of killing Army Spc. Vanessa Guillen, was denied bail Tuesday after pleading not guilty to all three felony counts against her.

Aguilar appeared virtually before U.S. Magistrate Judge Jeffrey Manske during a preliminary hearing in Waco on Tuesday. Aguilar, dressed in a striped jumpsuit and orange face mask, maintained her innocence while in federal court.

“She clearly and unequivocally denies the accusations made against her by the government,” said Lewis Gainor, a federal public defender who represents Aguilar. “It is supported by probable cause, which is the bare minimum for a case to go forward. At this point, she is presumed to be innocent. She has a right to a trial.”

Vanessa Guillén remembered at Fort Hood memorial; family lawyer demands congressional inquiry

Houston Chronicle by  Olivia P. Tallet July 17, 2020

https://www.houstonchronicle.com/news/houston-texas/houston/article/Vanessa-Guillen-remembered-at-Fort-Hood-memorial-15415749.php

Quote
Spc. Vanessa Guillén was remembered by her commander, her comrades and her family at a memorial service Friday morning.

A portrait of Guillén rested on a black shrouded easel before the socially distanced audience in a chapel on the base; her boots, helmet and weapon were front and center.

The private event was attended by soldiers and Guillén family members.

“This is difficult. This is difficult to discuss because the tragedy of her loss has forever changed our squadron and it has forever changed her family,” said Lt. Col. Edward Gavin, commander Regimental Engineer Squadron, 3rd Cavalry Regiment, according to the unit’s Facebook page. “We wrestle with feelings of anger, depression, anxiety, fear, frustration and sadness. And we have so many questions, some of which may never be answered.”

“This a long held military tradition that allows her unit to morn her loss,” a release from Fort Hood said.

The Guillén family and their lawyer, Natalie Khawam, spoke after the service outside the base in front of a memorial to Vanessa that’s been created.

“We were all able to witness a very beautiful memorial service,” Khawam said. “But it’s not enough.”

Khawam said that the family wants a congressional investigation of the case. She said the family will meet with President Donald Trump July 29 and hold a march in Washington, D.C. on July 30.

“We will not take anything less than justice for Vanessa,” she said. She said that the “elephant in the room — sexual harassment — has got to stop.” She said she saw the armory room where authorities said Vanessa Guillén was killed and that it had a barred window that was open to the outside so that any noise inside would be audible outside. She said therefore she believed the noise of a struggle between Vanessa and her killer would have been heard.

Vanessa Guillen’s family struggles to find answers after soldier’s slaying

American Military News  July 19, 2020 Heather Osbourne - Austin American Statesman

https://americanmilitarynews.com/2020/07/vanessa-guillens-family-struggles-to-find-answers-after-soldiers-slaying/

Quote
Investigators believe a fellow soldier, Spc. Aaron David Robinson, beat Guillen to death with a hammer the morning of April 22. Authorities have accused Robinson’s 22-year-old girlfriend, Cecily Aguilar of Killeen, of helping Robinson dismember, burn and bury Guillen’s body about 20 miles away from the post.

Robinson fatally shot himself on July 1 when local authorities confronted him off post, Killeen police have said. Aguilar was charged in federal court with conspiracy to tamper with evidence.

But the Army’s account of how Guillen died remains riddled with holes that investigators refuse to clarify, said the family’s attorney Natalie Khawam. The attorney said she hoped publicizing such questions would push the Army to answer the family’s pleas for transparency.

Army Criminal Investigation Command investigators sat down with the Guillen family the day of Robinson’s death and told them the 20-year-old soldier had killed Guillen because she had seen a photo of Aguilar on his phone, recognized her as a woman married to another Fort Hood soldier, and threatened to report his affair, according to Khawam.

Allegations of sexual harassment

The family does not accept the Army’s explanation for a motive.

“Immediately, Vanessa’s dad said, ‘That’s not something Vanessa would do,'” Khawam said. The Guillen sisters in unison agreed that the investigators’ explanation was wrong.

Gloria Guillen said she saw her daughter’s health progressively deteriorate over the months leading up to her disappearance, saying her normally muscular and vibrant daughter became thin and reserved. The mother said she begged her daughter to tell her what was wrong.

The Guillen family said Vanessa had told other soldiers at Fort Hood that she was being sexually harassed and eventually confided in her family, saying it was Robinson.

The Army has maintained that it has found no substantial evidence that Robinson was sexually harassing Guillen.
