NBA to sell licensed face masks with proceeds going to charity
The National Basketball Association (NBA) has begun to sell licensed face masks that fans can wear as states as well as the White House have recommended that all Americans wear face coverings when out in public amid the coronavirus pandemic.
The masks can be customized with all 30 league teams and all 12 WNBA teams and come in youth and adult sizes.
“As a global community, we can all play a role in reducing the impact of the coronavirus pandemic by following the CDC’s recommendation to cover our nose and mouth while in public,†Kathy Behrens, president of the NBA's Social Responsibility and Player Programs, said in a statement Friday. “Through this new product offering, NBA and WNBA fans can adhere to these guidelines while joining in the league’s efforts to aid those who have been directly affected by COVID-19.â€
The masks cost $15 and are currently available for pre-sale, shipping no later than May 1. Proceeds will go to Feeding America – the largest hunger-relief non-profit in the country – and Second Harvest Canada, according to the league's statement.
