Colorado police issued an apology to a father who was arrested in front of his young child for allegedly violating a social distancing order.

The Brighton Police Department admitted “an overreach by our police officers” on Sunday when Matt Mooney was placed in handcuffs before the eyes of his 6-year-old daughter for playing ball with her in a park.  ...

Though a sign at the park read, “Closed,” it also noted that “in groups of no more than 4 persons, parks remain open for walking, hiking, biking, running and similar activities.”

Mooney was at the park with only his wife and daughter when the officers approached, and said he did not want to give the police his identification as he felt he had done nothing wrong, reassuring his daughter that nothing would happen to him.   ...BizPacReview

Sorry, but common sense should be the guild here, if you are keeping distance from others in your small family unit outside, leave the folks alone. That is why it ticks me off to see large outside parks being targeted as no go zones.

Exactly. Just like the guy arrested for paddle boarding near San Diego - all by himself, on the ocean, no one within hundreds of yards (at least). Ridiculous.

The title really sucks. At first glance I missed the word "daughter",but didn't miss the words "plays" and "handcuffs",and was outraged the SOB wasn't killed.

A Colorado man has received an apology from his city’s leadership after he was handcuffed and detained by police in front of his 6-year-old daughter for playing tee-ball in an empty park.

According to KDVR, a father named Matt Mooney was confronted Sunday by three police officers in Brighton, about 25 miles north of Denver, for apparently violating the state’s social distancing guidelines during the coronavirus pandemic.

Brighton police informed Mooney he was in a violation of the state’s lockdown orders. However, KDVR noted a sign at the park stated it was closed, but that groups of four people or less could still enjoy its amenities. Mooney, his daughter and his wife were a party of three, so there shouldn’t have been an issue, as far as I can tell.
