New York Times discovers: lockdowns don't really work.
Quote
It appears clear that the playbook for slowing the spread of the virus used in Western Europe and the United States may not work everywhere. Societies with informal economies simply cannot enforce lockdowns without running the risk of societal collapse.

But even those countries that have made progress after being hit hard by the first wave of the virus are by no means out of the woods. Social-distancing rules in many places — and adherence to them — remain haphazard, little match for the most basic of human desires: to connect.

Neither the wild Lake of the Ozarks party nor the Great Clips salon where two barbers tested positive, both stories that triggered widespread alarm in the national media, transmitted the virus to anyone around them.

I'd just like to see (of the new cases) participation rate in riots or demonstrations. Contact tracing that should be a real hoot!

Not arguing. See my early comments on this outbreak. While for those in urban Democrat-run enclaves, this appears to be particularly lethal compared to the effects in saner jurisdictions, I have to wonder how many died of "cooking the books" rather than the disease itself, and in that group I would include all given the one or two of three medications regimen designed to prove the POTUS wrong, when all they were doing, ultimately was trying to discredit a Jewish Doctor who should have been lauded for his efforts to save lives instead of pulled off of YouTube.

 No problem. We have seen this coming. It's part of keeping the panic going, because people won't panic over a disease with a quick, done at home, and cheap cure.

COVID was just a test to see how the MSM could skew the narrative, with the Global Socialists pushing the pawns.
When that was losing its edge, then the riots and such to see how far individuals can be managed and pushed.

This pipsqueak Communist rabble ain't sh*t. Only the MSM and their fellow travelers in offices in the affected areas make this possible. A government which represented the majority of the people in these areas would have quelled the insurrection after the first brick hit glass.

News reports this morning were saying, just as they predicted, new cases of Covid-19 are spiking in states that opened early, prompting governors to consider shutting or slowing down economic activity in their states—again.

Got that? New cases. Not a word about morbidity or mortality rates, just positive cases.

Don’t fall for this. It a media scam. You have to tease out the facts (the science) from the fiction (presidential politics).

Trust me, this is just a continuation of Russian collusion, Ukrainian phone call and orange man bad. All in an effort to muddy the water in the time left before November’s election.

And anyone knows you can increase the number of positive tests by casting a wider net for testing—simply because the more you test, the more that false positives are inevitable.

The county where I live has some of the most widespread testing availability anywhere. Anyone who wants one can get one, and because of state restrictions, some professions have to get tested regularly. We've had about a half-dozen cases this week. Only one showed any symptoms. The same story played out last week. Now, could they be asymptomatic carriers? Maybe. But I'm leaning more and more toward it being false positives.

The fact remains that even with the ramp-up in testing, and the much-ballyhooed increase in the southwest, cases are still going down nationwide: 23,000 new cases were reported yesterday compared to 25,000 last Friday.

Identifying airborne transmission as the dominant route for the spread of COVID-19

published June 11, 2020

The mitigation measures are discernable from the trends of the pandemic. Our analysis reveals that the difference with and without mandated face covering represents the determinant in shaping the trends of the pandemic. This protective measure significantly reduces the number of infections. Other mitigation measures, such as social distancing implemented in the United States, are insufficient by themselves in protecting the public. Our work also highlights the necessity that sound science is essential in decision-making for the current and future public health pandemics.

If the media were honest, they would report everything right down the line—contextual reporting. But, since it’s plain as day the media is an appendage of the DNC, we get spun news, agenda news, biased news, fake news—take your pick. It’s all a perversion of the free presses’ responsibility under the first amendment.

AstraZeneca agrees to make COVID-19 vaccine for Europe

LONDON — Drugmaker AstraZeneca struck a deal Saturday to supply up to 400 million doses of an experimental COVID-19 vaccine to European Union countries, the latest in a series of agreements as scientists, governments and pharmaceutical companies race to combat the virus.

AstraZeneca plans to begin delivering the vaccine to European countries by the end of this year under the agreement with the Inclusive Vaccine Alliance, formed this month by France, Germany, Italy and the Netherlands. All other EU member states will have the chance to take part under the same terms as the original alliance members.........

Can't say I blame them for conducting trials where they are allowed to.

But the way I read it, is that AZ will be preparing the vaccine exclusively for Europe.

Any Pharma research experts out there who can tell us what this exactly means?

The bar graph shows the level of antibodies made in response to the vaccine when given to primates.  Those antibodies neutralize the virus.  The Novavax approach seems to get a much higher response than the other three.

I am roughly familiar with stuff like this after taking second semester Sophomore biology in college (disease and immunity).  We had New Zealand white rabbits and inoculated them weekly with serratia marcescens (harmless to the rabbit), took blood samples, and ran the titers to demonstrate the weekly increase in antibodies.

Florida's case increase does look kind of concerning at this point. It's showing some signs of exponential increase.

I don't attribute it to "easing social distancing" because it would've happened sooner than a month and a half into it if that were the case. Something else seems to be going on there, particularly in the Miami area.

With the rise in cases in the most populated states in the country, it's just a matter of time before the death toll rises significantly.

Yeah, I know, it's the Daily Mail, but still...

Vitamin D deficiency increases risk of death from coronavirus
Anglia Ruskin University has found European populations with lower vitamin D levels have had a significantly higher death rate. Another study, carried out in Indonesia, revealed 98.9 per cent of Covid-19 patients with a vitamin D deficiency died.

https://www.dailymail.co.uk/femail/article-8444915/Sunshine-diet-Vitamin-D-plays-vital-role-fighting-coronavirus.html

(This would also explain why we haven't seen the dramatic rise in deaths in sunny states even as cases have risen.)

Questions for lockdown apologists
John Pospichal
May 23

We now have mortality data for the first few months of 2020 for many countries, and, as you might expect, there were steep increases associated with the beginning of the COVID-19 pandemic in each one.

Surprisingly, however, these increases did not begin before the lockdowns were imposed, but after. Moreover, in almost every case, they began immediately after. Often, mortality numbers were on a downward trend before suddenly reversing course after lockdowns were decreed.  ...

Medium
He discusses the mortality figures for several countries, finally asking:
Quote
: If health authorities vastly underestimated the prevalence of the virus at the beginning of the pandemic, why did the virus nevertheless wait until lockdowns were imposed to suddenly start killing at levels which exceeded normal deaths?
The abnormal is not the normal just because it is prevalent.
Roger Kimball, in a talk at Hillsdale College, 1/29/25
