Pluto just added the Mission Impossible channel to its lineup. A return to the good old days of the Cold War and the Soviet Menace.

Last year, I was conversing with a much younger coworker about Mission Impossible. When I mentioned that I watched MI on TV every week during my youth, he replied incredulously, "they had a TV series?"  lol

I just love the "Old Stuff".  I have all 7 seasons of MI. I'm going thru Gunsmoke right now. I'm mostly thru season 17 now. I think I'll go thru Have Gun Will Travel next. I'm currently watching "Call Northside 777"(1948) and "13 Rue Madeleine"(1947) will be next.

Been watching it occasionally on Amazon Prime. I love when the SHTF, and they have to scurry to make things right.

YouTube has of the episodes of HGWT except one. I have been sneaking those when the wife is doing homework.

Actually stumbled onto "BLACKLIST" on Netflix, starring James Spader.

He plays an global criminal brokering relationships among criminals and politicians, having connections second to none.

The writing on this series is phenomenal.  It will definitely hook you.

Yeah...22 episodes per season  8 seasons, and I've just reached #10 in Season 1.

Over the weekend, I watched the two-part version of "We The Living" (Ayn Rand's first novel), produced in Italy in 1942. Good and true to the novel (Rand had a say in re-editing it, removing some pro-facist snippets).

It's available "on the net" if you know where to look...

I make it a point to watch Lonesome Dove at least once a year.  McMurty does a heck of a lot implying life's lessons in his work, and does it masterfully.

And the acting and scenery are perfection. It just draws you in and almost makes you think you there.

Of course,I think "Deadwood" was even better, but given that Lonesome Dove was handicapped by first being aired on broadcast tv. Level the playing field by allowing the characters and scenes in Lonesome Dove to be more accurately portrayed, and Lonesome Dove would even blow Deadwood out of the water.

Let's face it,there are not many characters in Deadwood you would want to be friends with. happy77

I know both of us are huge Deadwood fans, but I also wondered if the language was AS SALTY, as portrayed.  Yeah, I knew there were hookers, and outlaws, card cheats, etc.  but I always wondered if there was probably a tad more decorum than how they showed it.   I base that on the many many pages of newspapers that i have read doing genealogy.  I have seen articles, where the writers/editors stated that subjects resorted to profanity.  So maybe it wasn't as commonplace as we think.

@catfish1957

I suspect,as with modern day America,it was situational. MUCH more common in bars and whorehouses than at social gatherings that included family.

When you consider Deadwood was basically centered around the main saloon and whorehouse,it's not all that shocking the language was rude.

Sister got me a Netflix subscription on my Roku (it came with like 5 accounts she could assign).... Most of it is crap as is most of tv/hollywood now day, but I got to watching a "true life" series on the Atlanta Bombing and Eric Rudolph bomber. At first it was pretty good, portraying the innocent man being framed for the Atlanta Olympics bombings. But as the series continued, it totally made up more and more crap to blame on Eric Rudolph.... like he killed two old men in the woods (made up)... then the series got all caught up in some militia junk that was never shown to be true in the least.... they then ginned up some section that he was about the bomb the FBI in the forest and had the means to do so. There was no proof he got help in the forest whatsoever from the town locals or militia. Heck the story is purely fictional with the whole friendly militia subplot that takes a huge chuck of time in the series.

Manhunt: Deadly Games is a fun series to watch, but there is an agenda to paint Erik as just a godless killer (and he may have been) with made up things presented as fact. Fact is, we don't know much about Rudolph's years in the forests other than he stole stuff (one report says he left money for stuff he stole) and that he was caught dumpster diving. The series even makes up a fake truck chase that never occurred.

Then there is the Christians portrayed as helping Erik and preaching about it in the pulpit (and posting it on church signs). Those dumb misled Christian hicks as the story goes.

I don't know that it was ever proven the Rudolph even bomb Atlanta with any certainty. He probable did, but who knows.

Anyhoo... Manhunt: Deadly Games is a fun series to watch, I have enjoyed it, but take it with a big grain of salt, because it goes the way of BS in it's fact reporting.

Fact: the one nurse Eric did kill lived a few miles from me. She never told locals she worked at an abortion clinic and drove there daily (pretty good commute). I remember being somewhat upset not because she died, but that she worked to kill babies everyday and it paid well enough that she did it in secrecy.

I saw that “The West Wing” is leaving Netflix on the 24th.

I’ve never seen it and just started watching it, so far it’s slow and I hope it picks up. I heard it’s supposed to be a must watch series.

I never watched it,but I suspect it is a like a lot of these mega-series with dozens of actors floating in and out,and you have to watch it for a while to understand what is going on. These are plots that don't end in an hour.

@verga , @sneakypete once I got to episode three, I’m hooked. I have to watch as much as I can by Christmas. It leaves Netflix on Christmas.

It’s also nice to see a lot of actors making cameo appearances who are no longer with us. Watching an episode now with Karl Malden, for example

I display the Confederate Battle Flag in honor of my great great great grandfathers who spilled blood at Wilson's Creek and Shiloh.  5 others served in the WBTS with honor too.

"The Expanse", Season 5.

(That and TEOTWAWKI, in slow motion/real time...)

I'm a Sci-Fi junkie.  Expanse has some really great SFX, but honestly,  and I don't know if it is because of my age, I have problems remembering all the complex plot lines from a year earlier. Might be I keep up with too many shows too.  In any case, I stopped at Season 2 a few years ago.

We got Amazon Prime for the shipping...All 5 seasons are available to stream, at least up to what has been released of season 5. I watched the 4th season over again to get back up to speed for the 5th, as I did before, watching 3 over to be up for season 4. Yes, the plot lines are more intricate than the average space opera, but that is one of the things I like about the show. The SFX are good, and the people who set them up show a better knowledge of physics and what I would anticipate in maneuvering and combat in vacuum and low/zero G than other shows I have seen, which makes the suspension of disbelief needed to enjoy a sci-fi show much easier.

I love The Expanse.   I loved Dark Matter more, though.   I love ANY SciFi/Space show.

Last night, I watched "The Road", a 2009 film about a post apocalyptic America, in which a man and his son travel south. I don't believe it received much of a release here, perhaps it's been on cable (but then again, I don't watch tv hardly at all).

Good 1080p copies can "be found" on the net, if you're unafraid and know where to look...

I have watched a couple of episodes, hard to squeeze it in with all else going on...and yeah, I'm a lover of sci fi, too.

Apple TV is going to have “The Foundation” next year.

I heard it’s supposed to be incredible and Asimov’s family approved it.

I have Apple streaming because I got a new phone in June but if this show lives up to it’s buzz, it might be worth to subscribe for a month, watch, and unsubscribe.

Netflix also has National Geographic’s “Mars” which is a very interesting mini series that ran two seasons about astronauts living on Mars. Very realistic and makes you think you’re on Mars too.

Mars is leaving on New Years Day. Now is the time to watch it.

@Gefn

Thank you for the tip!

MODS! Think it might be useful to have a board dedicated to tv series going off the air soon as a sub-board or sister board of the "what are you watching now?" board?

Season 9 of The Walking Dead.

Which,BTW,is not about the dead coming back to life at all. That was just a vehicle used to draw in viewers. It is about the collapse of civilized society, what happens, and what people have to do to survive and restore civilization.

Could be from nuclear war, asteroid stike,Covid-69,or any other cause. The cause is irrelevant. What is important is what is likely to happen, and how to recover.

BRILLIANT concept and show.
