Iphone help needed

My 14yo grandson is autistic and has several other severe learning disabilities.
I got him an LG trac-phone for his birthday hoping it will help with his communication skills...his cheap LG phone has audio message so he can send his texts without trying to type them....since he can barely read.

Now my Iphone 7plus...a little more expensive *****rollingeyes***** does not have, or at least I can't find the same feature so I can send him audio messages....I do have the microphone with my text message but that just types my message....Is there an app I need to get? or am I just not finding it...

I checked with my expert, 12 yr old grandson, but he uses the iphone xr... not sure if they work the same as the 7... :)

Well I can get it to work when I audio message another iphone..just won't work on an android...the same with facetime..

Yea, there are lots of deliberate "blocks" from Apple... evidently apple uses different file formats etc... may not get it to work apple to android...

I'm the Mac OS help guy, not the "iOS guy".
A quick search revealed this:

Open the Voice Memo app
Record a message
Save it
Tap on the message you just recorded
Tap the "share" icon (the square with the up arrow)
Tap the Message icon
Address the message
Tap the Send button
