Israel’s Holocaust museum apologizes for inaccurate videos

JERUSALEM (AP) — Yad Vashem, Israel’s Holocaust memorial, issued an apology Monday for videos presented during a ceremony attended by world leaders last month, saying they included “a number of inaccuracies.”

Dan Michman, head of Yad Vashem’s International Institute for Holocaust Research, said in a statement that several short films aired at the World Holocaust Forum that were meant to give a summary of World War II “included a number of inaccuracies that resulted in a partial and unbalanced presentation of the historical facts.”

All of this about the "Holocaust" and how it is interpreted has caused big waves, especially in the last week to 10 days but it is always a topic.

Okay, the below says a big Russian Oligarch and reported ally of Putin helps bankroll ADL (unconfirmed) and the Holocaust forum and anniversary last week, that is why, this article suspects, Putin got to speak at the Holocaust forum last week in Israel.

Russian oligarch Viatcheslav Moshe Kantor the main organizer and donor of the World Holocaust Forum

The President of the World Holocaust Forum Foundation and President of the European Jewish Congress, Viatcheslav Moshe Kantor was the main organizer and initiator of the Forum. Viatcheslav Kantor is a Russian oligarch and has been closely affiliated with Putin for years. This explains why Putin was the main guest in the Forum, why the siege of Leningrad was commemorated along with the Holocaust, why one month before the Forum, Russia and Putin himself launched a historical attack on Poland and subsequently on Ukraine and Baltic countries, blaming them of collaboration with Nazis. This also explains why the Polish President was not allowed to speak in the Forum and, therefore, decided not to come.

So, we only want the truth, nothing else.  I witnessed a very lively discussion on all of this last week.

Yad Vashem said the videos neglected to mention Poland’s division between Nazi Germany and the Soviet Union in 1939 or Nazi Germany’s conquest of Western Europe in 1940, showed incorrect borders of Poland and labeled concentration camps as extermination camps.

Basically, Stalin kept the eastern part of Poland that he had conquered in cooperation with Hitler. In return, Poland, after WW2, received territory sliced off from eastern Germany.

The distinction between "concentration camp" and "extermination camp" is not usually made in common usage, in the US at least. However, many concentration camps were basically factories, and at least one, Dachau, was specifically for political enemies of the Nazis (Dachau was opened within months of Hitler becoming Chancellor, in 1933). Others, like Auschwitz, were basically extermination camps, with some labor/factory activities.

I agree. Poland was occupied territory controlled by the Nazi's in one part,and the Soviets in another during WW-2,not an independent nation.

A fact little mentioned is that after the war, Buchenwald was used by the NKVD to hold political prisoners,  and many died there.

The organization had gone through several name changes - different acronym, basically the same thugs, So the first name was the Cheka, headed up by Felix Dzerzhinsky. His parents were ethnic Polish. After a couple of acronym changes, his death may have been natural, heart attack. His successor, over the OGPU, was Vyacheslav Menzhinsky, also ethnic Polish. After what may have also been a natural death, he was replaced by Genrikh Yagoda and the org name changed around that time to NKVD, whose parents were Jewish. He was replaced by Nikolai Yezhov, arrested and executed (he supposedly confessed that he poisoned Menzhinsky). Yezhov, whose ethnic origins are not mentioned by W'pedia, was replaced by Lavrentiy Beria and executed. Beria, a Georgian, survived Stalin but was tried and executed a few months later.

Sounds like it was a VERY bad job to be promoted into. Then again,from what I have read,there was no more dangerous place in the USSR than one close to Stalin.
