I'm not surprised, as I posted earlier today. But I do have a rather disconsolate and cheerless feeling as I gaze upon the "HISTORY MADE" 2018 Red Sox World Series banner that sits among the collection on my office wall.
"The most terrifying force of death, comes from the hands of Men who wanted to be left Alone. They try, so very hard, to mind their own business and provide for themselves and those they love. They resist every impulse to fight back, knowing the forced and permanent change of life that will come from it. They know, that the moment they fight back, their lives as they have lived them, are over. -Alexander Solzhenitsyn

I get that.

I only wonder know whom among the players were part and parcel of Astrogate and the Red Sox replay room reconnaissance ring.

If Pete Rose is banned for life, Cora should be too.

@EasyAce

That's the rub.   We're talking Lord of the Flies here.

Clubhouse leaders and chemistry tweakers.   Bregman and Altuve.  Betts and Martinez in Boston.

...forced to play out their contracts to the sound of boos.  Boos that will sound louder given the empty seats this year in Astros Land.

Baseball played at a high level is as beautiful to watch as the sunrise and sunset.

An example must be made.  Swiftly.

Commissioner should release all players' contracts retroactive to January 1, 2020...in the event there are players that want to distance themselves from the infected organizations.

THAT alone is going to put the fear of God into players and coaches who just witnessed two of the last three World Series Teams deemed cheaters.

Prove me wrong.

Well, they've made those examples so far---if you consider that, instead of just spanking a few flunky players, Manfred slapped two of the key bosses silly for knowing but doing nothing. The very thing Frank Serpico wished the NYPD had done instead of just putting a couple of symbolic flunky cops on trial, when he was trying to expose widespread police corruption in the 1960s and early 1970s.

And you'll get no argument from my man Thomas Boswell either.

I don't think that's a bad idea. But the commissioner would have to hash that out with the players' association. Because the flip side of the coin is---for every player wanting to distance themselves, there may be others who refused to take part in the scheming and espionage and don't want to be punished by association. They'd have to be very careful there.

I believe those players, hopefully in the majority (but I doubt it) will be exonerated by reputations built over seasons.

Here's another idea:

Shut down the complete ASTROS and RED SOX organizations for [fill-in-the-blank] seasons.  Force the team to face multiple lawsuits from players affected, yet not complicit.

That might get a billionaire's attention.

I wonder how well Beltrán is sleeping these days.
