3 years in, no sign of Trump's replacement for Obamacare
« on: December 30, 2019, 09:37:04 pm »
Houston Chronicle by AAMER MADHANI and RICARDO ALONSO-ZALDIVAR 12/30/2019

As a candidate for the White House, Donald Trump repeatedly promised that he would “immediately” replace President Barack Obama’s health care law with a plan of his own that would provide “insurance for everybody.”

Back then, Trump made it sound that his plan — “much less expensive and much better” than the Affordable Care Act — was imminent. And he put drug companies on notice that their pricing power no longer would be “politically protected.”

Nearly three years after taking office, Americans still are waiting for Trump’s big health insurance reveal. Prescription drug prices have edged lower, but with major legislation stuck in Congress it's unclear if that relief is the start of a trend or merely a blip.

Meantime the uninsured rate has gone up on Trump’s watch, rising in 2018 for the first time in nearly a decade to 8.5% of the population, or 27.5 million people, according to the Census Bureau.

This is just a bizarre criticism of Trump.

There was a bill that Trump supported, but McCain killed it at the last moment.  The claim that there is "no sign" of Trump's replacement for Obamacare can only be made by someone ignorant of the Congressional Record.  Trump tried to replace it, the bill lost, and now Democrats control the House so no bill is getting out of there.  End of story.

Trump should stay away from healthcare until the general population make it an issue, which it is not today.

Regarding pharma, all Trump need do is issue an executive order indicating that pharma will not sell for one dime more in the USA over any other nation in the world.  THE TIME HAS COME TO END THE USA TAXPAYER AND SUBSCRIBERS PAYING FOR PHARMA AND GIVING THE REST OF THE WORLD A RELATIVELY FREE RIDE.

My wife is from Russia, and in one of my trips there, I went to buy some anti-biotics.  This was around 2001 when people in government were receiving packages or envelopes with anthrax within.  The primary drug used for that was Cipro.  Cipro cost $120-$200 per script, and required a visit to a physician.  In Russia I could then buy Cipro for $1 or $2.  This is just not right.  The American people have been bent over by pharma and their elected officials who are all owned by the pharma companies, and the time has come to end the abuse.

Criticism is a site specialty here. TDS.
However most folks here realize that Ryan, McCain and others sought to block much of Trump's promised policy agenda.

And remember  that "Obamacare," was derived from "Romneycare,"  never a Trump plan.

Back to back losers McCain then Romney (and his little bro Ryan), still sore losers.

Or.... by someone just leftist (dishonest) enough to be spreading disinformation (propaganda) and lies.   In other words... a typical deep state Trump-hater.   Truth matters not to these types.   And even if it did matter... they couldn't get next to it.

Thank you & correct.  President TRUMP, did remove the MANDATE and many job killing regulations in Obamacare.
Then those 19 New taxes, hidden in 'not about health', obamcare. Hitler had the same plan. President TRUMP said he could let it die a natural death, but did not want to harm those ON IT..and is fixing obamcare. We never needed this phony 'health' care plan.  We had private insurance, Medicare, Medicaid, (welfare), INDIGENT CARE, Emergency care, no one can be turned away. Then Planned parenthood, Free Clinics, Catholic charity's, etc.

It hardly complicated; all Trump has to do is announce it and it's done;
sorta like the Ancient Emperors. Just reflect on the China Trade Deal,
NK denuclearization, Venezuelan democracy; and all those other epoch
milestones (or is it millstones?) Aren't words wonderful???

The important thing is that the individual mandates and penalties are gone.

What president said & it is in PRINT.  WORKING WITHIN THE CONSTITUTION AND WORKING WITH CONGRESS...these are the things he would like implemented.  Then we had the list & his plans.   Why do people post as if he is a dictator?  WE ARE A REPUBLIC.  3 EQUAL POWERS....but everything is done to 'slam' him, not that congress is at fault and those LEFTIST JUDGES...who block most of his plans, to make us safe. They sue him personally! Last count it was 12 lawsuits, not to mention the HOAX DOSSIER on Russia , now this phony, hoax 'impeach". Which is NOT an impeachment, but it is said like that to SMEAR HIM.  Smart people understand.  The parrots say, he was 'impeached'.

Tom Fitton, president  of Judicial Watch, agrees with me,  or I agree with HIM!  LOL

Correct and president TRUMP in his compassion said, he could allow it to die a natural death, but is fixing it, to help those STILL ON IT.  SAME AS MEDICAID.  President needs to be praised for his compassion not bashed by some on here.  (not talking about you libertybele).

I am so happy to be living in America and U.S. being a republic.  Why wouldn't people support the PRESIDENT? Some think, there is something wrong with me for being a patriot and happy American, to live here.   As if that is something dirty to say.  888mouth. I so appreciate America & my president.  BTW Those authors are NOT 'AMERICAN"....( to others; Don't bother bashing me for saying that, most understand)

I agree, I just want the 'criticism" to be accurate and not some LEFT, LYING,  TALKING POINT.  AGAIN, we have 3 equal powers of government,  why is only ONE power, attacked daily?  Criticized?  President is not a dictator or omnipotent.

Again, everyone is entitled to their opinion, regardless if it agrees with you or not.  Many are critical of Trump for various different reasons, and they are free to criticize if they so choose to do so.  As for accuracy, with the false reporting it is at times difficult to discern what is true.  Even at that, some in here are very 'experienced' and very knowledgeable in politics and have reason for their criticism or praise of Trump.

For strategic reasons, I hope the President doesn't announce this until we're closer to the election debates.

There's no reason to do it now, it wouldn't pass the House.

The president cannot propose legislation.  Revamping the healthcare system is up to our grand and glorious elected members of Congress -- all 535 of them.    What is concerning to me is the leftist talking about eliminating personal/private health insurance which would be an absolute disaster.  Both Cruz and Paul came up with very viable and workable healthcare plans but the idiots in the Senate never gave them a chance.  Here we sit.

Keep in mind that under President Trump we now have "a right to try law" which allows the use of experimental drugs for terminal patients.

@LegalAmerican there is absolutely no doubt that President Trump gives a very energized and exceptional rally.  What he says at his rallies is one thing and certainly his intent is presumably there.  Remember he is one person and he has to go through 535 members of Congress.  Heck if he didn't we'd have had an impenetrable border wall a long time ago.

I know full well his rhetoric he uses at his rallies.  I attend one in Macon, GA, and I thought the whole affair wonderful.  His rallies are so electric, and he is working for the American people, just as he claims.

And despite dealing with a corrupt Congress, with both sides of the aisle working against him, he is making progress on the wall.  But I say a simple Executive Order that restricts pharma from charging more in the USA than what they do in any other country for their product would be received overwhelmingly by the electorate and put the corrupt Congress in a real hard spot, which is needed.

There is no way they would attempt to undo that EO.  I believe the increases for folks in other countries would be negligible, but the savings to USA pharma users would be HUGE.  Why should USA taxpayers and subscribers pay one dime more than citizens of other countries for the same medication?  Makes no sense to me at all.  The criminals in the Congress will never do what is in the best interest of the American people, so Trump needs to force the issue.

I believe you are onto something there! If he were to sign a XO making that happen maybe 3 months before the election,he would have a solid lock on the votes of every senior and every younger American with long-term health issues. It would practically guarantee his re-election.
