Impeachment part 2 is payback time: Senate Republicans prepare to stick it to Dems

President Trump wants due process and his day in court, so to speak, and the opportunity to turn the tables on Democrats in an impeachment trial in the Republican-controlled Senate is increasingly likely.

In fact, conservatives seem to be licking their chops in anticipation that Democrats in the House will vote to impeach the president and send articles of impeachment on to the Senate.

“Everyone knows what they’re going to do next. They’re going to impeach the president and send it on to the Senate, but that is the good news. That’s good news,” GOP Rep. Chris Stewart said. “In the U.S. Senate, there won’t be any secret testimony or dishonest leadership … or to deny a defense … So we’ll finally be able to get to the truth.”

Stewart mentioned a number of witnesses he hoped would be called to testify in the Senate, to include the as-yet anonymous whistleblower, the House kangaroo court chairman Adam Schiff, the real Ukraine scoundrel Hunter Biden, Burisma board member Devon Archer, DNC consultant Alexandra Chalupa, and Fusion GPS researcher Nellie Ohr.

This is changing an impeachment and removal Senate trial to a trial of Hunter Biden without an investigation of Hunter Biden.  If Trump wanted to investigate Hunter Biden, he should have gone to the FBI to request such an investigation  Fusion GPS was an opposition research group and candidates used them for background on their opposition candidate(s).  Both Republican candidates and Democrats candidates used them.

Uncovering what the Bidens did in Ukraine is a legitimate defense in this Political (as opposed to Criminal) prosecution, because if it's revealed Trump had good reason to go after the Bidens, he'll be given the benefit of the doubt.  It will provide the fig leaf some Senators may think they'll need to vote against conviction.

Sloe Joe doesn't get a get-out-of-jail-free card simply because he's running for President, despite the Democrat protestations to the contrary.  They had no such stay on their hand when it was Obama wielding the power of the Executive Branch against Trump before the Election.  Trump certainly had no Monopoly Chance cards then, so why should Biteme now?

There's no dispute about Biden using his position to interfere in Ukraine. If that interference benefitted his son, or could reasonably be construed as an attempt to benefit his son, an investigation would be justified on grounds that have nothing to do with Biden being Trump's possible political opponent. Unless the Bidens can prove beyond any doubt that Trump knew there were no legitimate grounds to investigate, and his actions were entirely politically motivated, he's off the hook.

LOL, you mean the same FBI that tried to frame him? That FBI? The FBI is a disgrace to law enforcement and should be
disbanded. Let US Marshall's take over Federal investigations. At least they are an honest agency.

Our President has been accused of basically creating a witch hunt of the Bidens and Ukraine.  So ... how can the Bidens not be investigated and questioned?   Even if your assumption as to what the President should have done is correct; the DOJ and FBI is corrupt ... so how do you think that would have worked out for him??

The country has the right to learn of the deep corruption within our government -- not just within this administration -- but the past administration, of which Biden was a part of. If the past administration interfered in the '16 election, we have a right to know. After all, he is running for the presidency!

Based on their past history, the Republicans in the Senate don't need much help to hobble. They do that jes' fine all by themselves.

Let's hope they don't blow the Senate trial by their own incompetence and fears...
