U.S. has acquired just 16% of land needed for Trump's border wall

The Trump administration has acquired just 16% of the private land in Texas it needs to build the president's border barrier, casting doubt on his campaign promise to complete nearly 500 miles of new fencing by the end of next year, according to the latest construction data obtained by the Washington Post.

And of the 166 miles of border barrier the U.S. government is planning to build in Texas, new construction has been completed along just 2% of that stretch a year before the target completion date, according to the construction data. Just four miles of the planned border wall in Texas is on federal land — the 162 remaining miles lie on private property.

Faced with intense pressure to meet Trump's 500-mile campaign pledge, administration officials have instead prioritized the lowest-hanging fruit of the barrier project, accelerating construction along hundreds of miles of flat desert terrain under federal control in Western states where the giant steel structure can be erected with relative ease.

He hasn't purchased more because there is no NEED to purchase more at this time because the Dims and their RINO buttboys and girls keep throwing up financial and political roadblocks because both know that without the illegal alien vote,they are history.

Acquiring the land is simple. He can use imminent domain to just seize the land and/or right of way necessary,and pay them what the court determines is fair market value. The problem is and will continue to be the Dims/RINO's that are desperate to see him fail by trying every trick in the book to shut off the money.

Yeah,but not until after the elections. The Dims would be screaming to high heaven about "Trump and the Republicans stealing land from American citizens!" if it were to happen now.

Best to wait until the land is needed,and then take it. Right now Trump is having problems coming up with the money to put up a wall on land we already have available.

Yes,but not as much of it is being built as was wanted or is needed. The Dims are doing everything within their power to stop construction because they know they will lose votes,and maybe even lose their chance to take over the government again like they did for 40 years without the illegal alien votes.

Good points @sneakypete  The border wall is really taking a toll on the democrat voting base.
