WS Game Four: Astros v. Nationals, live thread

Time to see whether the Astros' bullpen game works against the Nats' fourth starter Patrick Corbin.

And, whether the Astro pen working hard enough Friday night leaves it vulnerable tonight, while the Nats pen not having to work so hard (even with the loss) proves an advantage if Corbin falters.

And, whether the Nats remember that heavy traffic with obstructions home does nothing but gum up the works and make Dupont Circle resemble the Daytona 500.

And, whether the Astros continue looking as alive at the plate as they looked Friday night, when they looked very alive and well.

Game Four about to get underway . . .

Kept a run from scoring by smothering that shot 5 ft to his right, and then starting the 5-3 double-play.

The Astros push Jake Marisnick as far as third but can't get him home, Altuve tries a sneak bunt but gets thrown out for the side.

But the Astros still lead it 4-0 in the middle of the fourth . . .

Naw, I'm fine.  I'm on this Series because of the Diamondbacks in the Nats and the Stros.  We didn't have a good year because of the folks we traded off last year.  We sure did save a lot of money, though!

I love what I'm seeing out of Jose Urquidy tonight. This kid throws five shutout innings and has a changeup that can drive you nuts at the plate. He turned a supposed-to-be-bullpen game into a whale of a quality start!

He brings in a pitcher whom Michael Brantley kills and Brantley loads the pads with a base hit.

Then Alex Bregman hits a grand salami past the left field foul pole and blows the game wide open.

Historic note: In the 1986 World Series, the first four games were also won in the road ballpark. The Mets lost Games One and Two in Shea Stadium; the Red Sox lost Games Three and Four in Fenway Park. And the Mets went on to win the Series in seven.

Also, in the 1996 Series, the first five games were won on the road---the Braves, Games One and Two in Yankee Stadium; the Yankees, Games Three through Five in Fulton County Stadium. And the Yankees won Game Six and the Series in New York.

And right now the Nats have to be thinking Max the Knife won't be looking just to pitch them to a 3-2 lead, he'll be pitching to save their lives, period, in Game Five.

Meanwhile, the guy who should have been brought in to pitch to Brantley was brought in to pitch to Kyle Tucker with the bases loaded a second time . . . and struck his hide out swinging for the side.

Like I said, Dave Martinez all of a sudden seems to have a thirst for being second-guessed.

Nats reliever Javy Guerra shakes away a one out hit and a two out hit in the top of the eighth . . . Brad Peacock dodges a throwing error and a walk in the bottom . . . and we go to the ninth with the Astros up 8-1 and three defensive outs from tying the Series at two games each!

Sorry I had to miss this game last night.  Looks like the Astros are indeed fired up, compared to the first two games.  Now it's the Nats who have to wake up and get back to playing like they did at the beginning of the series..

I'll be curious to see your new avi, but I can guarantee it won't be as great as mine because that's a pic of my baby girl (gone to be with the Lord now), and she was drop-dead gorgeous. It was a bit challenging to keep the "hat" on her head while we took the pic, hence the hand holding her still. But it just doesn't get any better than my sweet Zoey.

The last several night was just like watching the Diamondbacks play the past several years.  I think I'll not waste the time for the rest, I have important things to do, like boil water and rake the gravel lawn.
