Overstock CEO Patrick Byrne Quits As 'Deep State' Remarks Cause Uproar
by Tyler Durden

Quote
With his company's stock in free fall, Overstock.com CEO Patrick Byrne resigned as CEO on Thursday effective immediately, after he stunned investors by disclosing his entanglements with the “Deep State” as we reported previously.   ...

Byrne's resignation comes after conspiratorial comments from August 12, where he confessed his role in the 'deep state', claiming that he helped cause "damage done to our nation for three years and felt my duty as a citizen precluded me from staying silent any longer."  In the "comments on Deep State" statement, Byrne referred to law-enforcement officials as "the Men in Black" and said his choice to go public was encouraged by his "Omaha Rabbi."

"Thus, while I believe that I did what was necessary for the good of the country, for the good of the firm, I am in the sad position of having to sever ties with Overstock, both as CEO and board member, effective Thursday August 22," Byrne wrote.

Byrne released an initial statement last week where he discussed his involvement in the federal government's investigation into the 2016 election interference, though he wasn't super-specific, he said he assisted in 'investigations' related to the Clintons and Russia.  ...  Full story

I read his resignation letter earlier today and couldn't tell what the heck he was trying to say.  Here's a snippet:
Quote
Dear Shareholders,

In July I came forward to a small set of journalists regarding my involvement in certain government matters. Doing so was not my first choice, but I was reminded of the damage done to our nation for three years and felt my duty as a citizen precluded me from staying silent any longer. So, I came forward in as carefully and well-managed fashion as I could. The news that I shared is bubbling (however haphazardly) into the public. Though patriotic Americans are writing me in support, my presence may affect and complicate all manner of business relationships, from insurability to strategic discussions regarding our retail business. Thus, while I believe that I did what was necessary for the good of the country, for the good of the firm, I am in the sad position of having to sever ties with Overstock, both as CEO and board member, effective Thursday August 22.

This possibility or even likelihood has been forefront of my mind for just over a year, since certain news became public in July 2018.  ...

...  Coming forward publicly about my involvement in other matters was hardly my first choice. But for three years I have watched my country pull itself apart while I knew many answers, and I set my red line at seeing civil violence breaking out. My Rabbi made me see that “coming forward” meant telling the public (not just the government) the truth. I now plan on leaving things to the esteemed Department of Justice (which I have doubtless already angered enough by going public) and disappearing for some time.

I wish all shareholders a smooth and level road… And don’t forget to shop Overstock.com!

Overstock CEO Turned Over Docs To DOJ ‘on FBI’s Russian and Hillary Clinton Probes’
By  Sara Carter -
August 12, 2019

Overstock CEO Patrick Byrne delivered to the Department of Justice a number of documents, including emails and text messages, in April, regarding both the origins of the Russian investigation, and an FBI operation into Hillary Clinton with which he was personally involved during the first months of 2016, according to a U.S. official who spoke SaraACarter.com. Byrne has also confirmed the account.

Byrne claims the documents, which have not been made public and are currently under investigation by the DOJ, are allegedly communications he had with the FBI concerning both the Clinton investigation and the origins of the Russian investigation. SaraACarter.com did not review the documents, which are now under review by law enforcement.  ...

He noted that the communications will prove that the FBI also had an operation into Clinton Foundation that he was directly involved in.

“This is going to become the greatest political scandal in US history,” he said. “If we survive it, and if Rule of Law returns to America, it will be due to one man: Bill Barr.”  ...

Overstock.com's CEO resigned on Thursday weeks after he admitted to having a relationship with a Russian agent and being involved in an FBI probe.

The company's stock prices surged 5 percent after Patrick Byrne resigned following his claim of being involved in a Federal Bureau of Investigation probe into Russia and former U.S. presidential candidate Hillary Clinton.

His resignation follows a drop of over 30 percent in the online retailer's shares over two days earlier this month, with investors rattled after Byrne claimed in a statement that he had secretly been involved with the FBI since 2015.

I’m watching former Overstock CEO Patrick Byrne being interviewed on Fox right now and it is completely bonkers. He claims he had knowledge of a deep state conspiracy to set up Hillary Clinton, and Rubio, Cruz, and then Trump, if I am following this correctly.

Byrne was just on CNN close to an hour.

He was close to this Russian woman so the FBI asked him to help them find out what she was doing.  He said he would do it.  That is the crux of all this.  He could have told the FBI "No", but he helped them.  End of story.

Fmr. Overstock CEO Patrick Byrne: "FBI Got Hijacked From The Top," The "Men In Black" Pushed Me To Contact Butina
Posted By Ian Schwartz
On Date August 22, 2019

Patrick Byrne, who just resigned as CEO of Overstock.com today, said the FBI "got hijacked" and the "Men in Black," those at the top, were part of a conspiracy to set up Donald Trump, Hillary Clinton, Rubio, and Cruz.

Byrne said after he reported contact from Russian national Maria Butina to the federal authorities he was approached by "the men in black" and encouraged to have a relationship with her. The businessman said Butina was being set up by the "men in black" to approach and build contacts with people in the Trump campaign, Clinton campaign, and even with Senators Ted Cruz and Marco Rubio.  ...
Quote
[From interview with Martha MccCallum on FOX]
... The "men in black," as I called them, showed up and asked for this third favor.  And I -- well, anyway, I’m not going to go into the details right now, but I didn't know who sent the orders, but I did them last -- they seemed fishy, last summer watching television and here's the punch line -- here’s the punch line, people, last summer watching television and some congressional hearings, I figured out where those orders came from.  It came from a guy named Peter Strzok.

And well, three staff (ph) -- Carlin, McCabe, Comey, that was who sent the orders.  And …

MACCALLUM:  Well, you're naming a bunch of FBI people there.

BYRNE:  Well, the -- Peter Strzok, and it’s been confirmed to me that my instructions came from Peter Strzok, that the people who carried me orders were coming .. .

Fmr. Overstock CEO Patrick Byrne: "National Security State Was Weaponized," Comey Involved In Conspiracy
Posted By Ian Schwartz
On Date August 22, 2019

Former Overstock CEO Patrick Byrne talks to CNN's Chris Cuomo about being approached by the FBI to have contact with Russian national Maria Butina and the involvement of higher-ups in the bureau. Byrne predicted more whistleblowers will come forward and that then-FBI Director James Comey knew what was happening.

Byrne continually referred to those involved with the conspiracy as "X, Y, and Z." Byrne revealed that Mr. Z is former FBI Director James Comey in his interview with Cuomo.  ... More at Real Clear Politics

Considering their recent record, I don't trust the word of the "FBI."

He needs a good lawyer, to succinctly state his case.

Cuz I have listened to his Fox appearance, and I don't fully understand it.

I do however believe there is some serious bad stuff, from the Clapper, Brennan, Comey, McCabe, Strzok effort to exhonerate Clinton, and overturn Trump's election.

The difference is that the Left invents the theory to use as a media bludgeon, treating it as if it is a lost Gospel until brutally disproven. Some will never believe it isn't so, and that is how effective the Big Lie technique really is.

On the Right, people come up with theories to try to explain observations or data which make no sense to them otherwise (which, even if true and correct, are summarily dismissed by the Leftist Press with such vigour, that no one dare publicly embrace the theory for fear of becoming a pariah. Look what was done to Joe McCarthy, and he was right, as time and later disclosure has shown.

McCarthy was successfully marginalized (destroyed) for his correct "theory" about the threat of communism in the USA back then.   Since then, they have literally infested, infiltrated and become embedded in every aspect of American life.   I daresay Joe is feeling rather vindicated right about now... if he is able to observe from where he is...

even though being right didn't help to save America from the radical left.   The blinders have been only too successfully pulled over a major portion of American citizens eyes since then.  Hard to believe.  And getting more and more surreal by the day.

That's just it. People have been programmed that he was wrong when he was right. Considering the mass media were following, even then, in Goebbels' and Leni Riefenstahl's footsteps, having realized their power in being able to create the narrative, to steer the discussion on or off topic at will, to mold minds and opinions and actions taken, they were on the front lines in a war of belief. While academics were dissecting the Teutonic psyche in an attempt to understand that social pathology, post mortem, others saw an opportunity to utilize the same tactics for their benefit. Unfortunately, that benefit has been less and less aligned with the good of the Republic, and many were card-carrying Communists, whose viewpoint was that their ideology had just prevailed over the National Socialists. All they had to do was believe their own propaganda.

McCarthy did lie about the list. When pressed to reveal it, he only offered one name. A vote for his condemnation was initiated, in 1954, by a Republican senator. Flanders was no friend of communism and understood how McCarthy’s antics undercut the fight against spread of communism.

'In every country in which communism has taken over,' he reminded the Senate, 'the beginning has been a successful campaign of division and confusion.' He marveled at the way the Soviet Union was winning military successes in Asia without risking its own resources or men, and said this nation was witnessing 'another example of economy of effort ... in the conquest of this country for communism.' He added, 'One of the characteristic elements of communist and fascist tyranny is at hand as citizens are set to spy upon each other.' 'Were the junior Senator from Wisconsin in the pay of the communists, he could not have done a better job for them.' 'This is a colossal innocence, indeed.'

Similarly, this crackpot Byrne is not helping at all, where legitimate problems in the FBI are concerned.

Now tell me that isn't happening here (again). When the GCA of 1968 was passed it was a 'hot tip' that led to Kenyon Ballew being raided and shot over novelty grenades. Now, the push is for Red Flag laws--and that's just with guns.

What do you think "See something Say something " is really about? (Hint: It isn't the local jihadi).

Another trick is to claim to be something they are not.  "An act to protect..." often contains language that does anything but protect the subject of the Bill.

You say Flanders was no friend of Communism, but the net effect was that he couldn't have helped it more. He didn't just discredit McCarthy, but made the entire hunt for entrenched and infiltrated Communists into a "witch hunt" in the eyes of the public.

What better smokescreen for the Marxists to operate under?

Within a decade, the Communists were making serious inroads into the Democrat Party, and by the late 70s, that coup was pretty much done. Now, they don't even make pretense of not being Marxist, and openly call themselves "Socialist" (Communist lite, SSDN).
...and virtually every one of the 1963 goals has been accomplished.

Of all tyrannies, a tyranny sincerely exercised for the good of its victims may be the most oppressive. It would be better to live under robber barons than under omnipotent moral busybodies. The robber baron's cruelty may sometimes sleep, his cupidity may at some point be satiated; but those who torment us for our own good will torment us without end for they do so with the approval of their own conscience.

"I wish it need not have happened in my time," said Frodo.

"So do I," said Gandalf, "and so do all who live to see such times. But that is not for them to decide. All we have to decide is what to do with the time that is given us."

As an addendum to your brilliant post above @Smokin Joe:

The United States Department of State cut the legs out from under General Chang in China forcing his retreat to Formosa (Taiwan now) which ceded mainland China to Mao. That played a very large role in bringing about the Korean and Vietnam wars.  Then they proceed to betray the enemies of Castro who had escaped Cuba and come here to organize an effort to take their country back.  Under the pretense of helping them in that effort, they instead exposed them on a Cuban beach for Castro to do with as he pleased.  Tried to do the same in Nicaragua and would have got that done as well but for a couple of TRUE American patriots by the names of Oliver North and John Poindexter.

Anyone who does not believe that our federal National government was and is riddled with Communist operatives is very much delusional.

Ok...that cinches it.   Even tho Byrne plays both sides (donates to rats too).... he must be telling the truth about "this".

No quarter given to the enemy within...ever.

You can vote your way into socialism, but you have to shoot your way out of it.

Had the air strikes proceeded in support of the expatriate Cuban invasion to re-take their government from the Communists, the Cuban air force and armor could have been destroyed with little opposition.
Instead, citing State Department sources, (closely tied to a NYT article/writer), Kennedy called off the air operation (with disagreement from CIA, who knew Castro was a communist who had no intention of setting up democratic government in Cuba) , and that cancellation of air support directly led to the failure of the counterrevolution, as Cuban air and armor factored heavily in defeating the expatriate force.
The debacle is now known as The Bay of Pigs invasion, and likely would have been successful had the original plan been followed. Two years later, we were looking down the nosecones of Soviet made IRBMs, doubtless for the purpose of a nuclear launch, and capable of reaching Washington, D.C. (The Cuban Missile Crisis for those who aren't up to speed.)
We lived 50 air miles south of DC at the time, and it is the only time I saw serious concern from my father, who mapped out our escape route from the peninsula we were on to Virginia (by water) in the event the balloon went up.
Dad was right, in that not only would land routes have taken us into or toward fallout, but the roads would have been clogged. Only by water could we have made it out in a timely fashion.
