Judge orders Paul Manafort to be transferred to New York City’s notorious Rikers Island

Paul Manafort, the former Trump campaign chairman who was sentenced earlier this year to four years in prison for tax and bank fraud related to his work advising Ukrainian politicians, will be transferred later this week from a minimum security facility in Pennsylvania to New York City’s Rikers Island, a source close to Manafort told Fox News.

Rikers Island is the famous jail in the shadow of LaGuardia Airport. It has been the temporary home of some of the most high-profile violent criminals in the city, including  David Berkowitz, the Son of Sam; and Mark David Chapman, the man who killed John Lennon.

"He’s not a mob boss," the source close to Manafort said.

A New York State judge ordered the transfer at the request of New York City District Attorney Cy Vance, Jr. He will be held in solitary confinement for his own protection, the source said. The move is expected to happen as early as Thursday.

And thank you for showing you only wish to embarrass the Trump administration which really has been working wonders, for prison reform, for the economy, for low unemployment for minorities and so on.  Yes, some alleged crimes from 2006 but if that's the best one has, then run with it.

President Trump’s former campaign chairman will be moved later this week to Rikers Island, a New York prison infamous for violence.

A New York state judge granted New York City District Attorney Cy Vance Jr.’s request for the transfer, Fox News reported. Manafort, who is serving time in prison for financial crimes and illegally lobbying on behalf of Ukraine, will be held in solitary confinement for his own safety, a source told the news outlet.

"He’s not a mob boss," the source said.

The 70-year-old could be moved as soon as Thursday.

Manafort is currently imprisoned at Federal Correctional Institution Loretto, a low-security prison in Pennsylvania, according to the Federal Bureau of Prisons. He was previously held at the U.S. Penitentiary Canaan in Waymart, a high-security penitentiary in Pennsylvania.

If they want to kill him, they should be men and sentence him to death by lethal injection.

Vance Jr. is DEMOCRAT. He is not always "honest" in his dealings.  This is what I gleaned from wikilinks.  Yes. TDS..taking it out on a 70 year old man.

Taking him out and shooting him would offend their delicate sensibilities.  Better to just let a prison do the dirty work for them.  It takes a really special person to root for the Rats about this.

I don't understand. Yes he was convicted of a crime, but not a heinous crime. It was white collar. Rikers? Really?

OK...I read the article trying to understand. If it is politically motivated...there is a huge problem.

Well, it does send a great big screaming message that if you support Trump you can pay dearly for it.  (Usual disclaimer:  Manafort is a creep, and this is in no way meant as a defense of Manafort.)
