The Republicans in the Senate have not supported anything that Trump wanted with the single exception of the tax legislation.  That will be it.

This country will operate without a budget for the next two years because the Dems will agree to nothing.  The GOP has come to realize that shutting down the government only benefits the Democommies.  So why do it?

What is needed is simple.  The GOP must obtain VOTING majorities in both houses of Congress, that is 50+% in the House and 60+% in the Senate to accomplish anything of note.  Otherwise it is business as usual, gridlock, gridlock, gridlock.

Perhaps Beto O'Rourke is right, and our Constitution needs to be amended.  Does it say in the Constitution that a 60+% vote in the Senate is required?  I doubt that seriously.  If not, it is time to use a simple majority in both houses.  Governing is difficult enough without requiring larger than 50+% votes.

That's the way it's supposed to be, though. The system's set up to require a broad consensus.

Unfortunately, there have been times when certain political movements have secured enough power to ramrod legislation and even constitutional amendments through regardless of the opposition, and when that happens, the system makes it next to impossible to undo it.

The other part is that we now have at least one party that has completely done away with any desire for consensus and wants to relive its glory days of 100 years ago, where they made the rules alone.

Johnny Isackson, one of the fools that voted against the president lost my vote.  If he is going to vote with the Dems, we might as well vote a real Democommie into office.

The need for TERM LIMITS is greater than ever!

And Tumpy pissed em all off, right off the get-go... Amazing that no one wants to work with him, ain't it?

No, this country will operate without a budget for the same reason as before: NEITHER side wants a budget. I know what the Democrats are, but the Republicans are supposed to be the adults in the room. When is the last time you heard a Republican hue and cry for a balanced budget? You will do well to disabuse yourself of this team-playing and focus where the truth really is: NONE of them are to be trusted, not one.

No, what is needed is CONSERVATIVES... Principled Conservatives must be elected en masse. The Republican rank and file needs to stop this boney-assed pragmatism and 'lesser evil' voting and demand actual Conservatives who actually believe in, and live by the principles that Republicans purport to hold so dear. If that day, until that day, thank God above for gridlock.

Until y'all stop electing mere politicians and start electing statesmen, the same will inevitably continue.

Oh hell no. Our founders, in their wisdom, broke the thing by design. Thank God for that too - If we had a government that was streamlined and worked well, we'd have all been commies since FDR first reared his head. No, that last thing you want is for government to work well and be capable of getting things done...

Conservatives.
Balanced budgets.
Federalism.
moral responsibility.

That is what will weaken the federal behemoth.

And without that, there is nothing but doom. Period.
