GOP lawmakers offer several locations for Trump address

President Trump won’t be delivering the State of the Union address on the House floor on Jan. 29, but GOP lawmakers are offering a number of alternatives for him to consider.

Most of them involve their own districts, as many of the Republicans would love to host Trump’s speech — if he decides to deliver it someplace outside the Capitol.

Minority Whip Steve Scalise (R-La.) said Trump could come down to the SuperDome in New Orleans. 

“We are gonna be a little more free the next couple weeks than we should be after the Saints were robbed,” Scalise told The Hill, referring to the NFL team’s loss on a controversial referee’s call on Sunday.

Rep. Rodney Davis (R-Ill.) said the Old State Capitol in Springfield, Ill., would be a “great place” for Trump to give the speech. That was the site of Abraham Lincoln’s historic speech in which he uttered the words: “A house divided against itself, cannot stand.”

Doesn't the Constitution stipulate that the address is to be delivered to congress?

Article II, Section 3

He shall from time to time give to the Congress Information of the State of the Union, and recommend to their Consideration such Measures as he shall judge necessary and expedient; he may, on extraordinary Occasions, convene both Houses, or either of them, and in Case of Disagreement between them, with Respect to the Time of Adjournment, he may adjourn them to such Time as he shall think proper; he shall receive Ambassadors and other public Ministers; he shall take Care that the Laws be faithfully executed, and shall Commission all the Officers of the United States.

The Constitution doesn't stipulate where he gives the State of the Union.

Seriously, though, no public venues. It would be a security nightmare. TSA is grounded.

Invite the Dem Senators too...as well as the SCOTUS and The Service Chiefs.

Leave a copy of the address in an envelope on the ledge of the Speakers well in the House addressed to Pelosi and after that she can pound sand.

I like it. But finding that address may be beyond her capabilities, from what I've seen.

Maybe something simpler. A poster with an arrow pointing "Over Here".

He could tack it to the door to her office...which is right off of Statuary Hall (The old original House Chamber) as he walks to the Senate chambers.  I'm sure one of her staffers would find it and get it to her.

They’re usually long speeches with purposefully written applause lines. I can’t see him delivering it from such a sterile location. It would be really dull.
