Byron York: Judge's accusations mar Michael Flynn sentencing hearing

The sentencing of former Trump White House national security adviser Michael Flynn on a single charge of lying to the FBI turned into a dramatic scene in a Washington, D.C., courthouse Tuesday. Federal Judge Emmet Sullivan excoriated Flynn for what is called uncharged conduct — that is, for crimes that Flynn has not been formally accused of committing.

In open court, Sullivan raised the question of whether Flynn, a retired Army three-star general with more than three decades of service, might have committed treason. He questioned whether Flynn sold out the United States. He said Flynn had served as an unregistered foreign agent (for Turkey) inside the White House.

"Arguably, that undermines everything that this flag over here stands for," Sullivan said, gesturing toward the American flag in the courtroom, according to reporters who were present. "Arguably, you sold your country out."

All were terribly damaging accusations, especially coming from a federal judge sitting in court. And all were false, given that Flynn did not commit treason, did not sell out the United States, and did not serve as an unregistered foreign agent in the White House. There's a reason Trump-Russia special counsel Robert Mueller did not charge Flynn with those crimes, and the reason is he did not commit them.

It appeared Sullivan had a momentary loss of reason or didn't have his facts straight, or both. He later walked back some of his comments, but the damage was done.

Still maintain that Sullivan was purposefully getting his screed 'on the record'.

Flynn is Bush league compared to Hillary Clinton's meetings during her tenure as Sec of State, 'growing' her Clinton Foundation 'Pay to Play'???

So if he serves time, get ready for what Pres. Trump's got for them when the 2020 campaign heats up.

Maybe Flynn knows he's getting a full pardon and restitution so why rock the boat?

But, maybe somebody showed him pics of his kids walking home from school, too?

The drama continues.

Yeah, but the point was that on talk radio and FOXNEWS...for over two weeks, we've been hearing about how pissed off Sullivan was when he read the transcripts / paper trail of the initial interview...and that he was going to take Mueller to the woodshed.

What happened?  Did the NSA download 'evidence' of child porn on his home computer?  His son's or daughter's?

And don't tell me that only happens in Jason Bourne movies.

Dick Tracy had the first i phone.  Used it to catch Fly-Face.

Or the more logical reason is that every bit of news we get is a bucket of shit that is fabricated from a million different leaks and shaded with unfounded innuendo and political bias. Then when an actual news event happens like today where a heavily speculated event finally occurs and it is contrary to what the MSM has been telling us everyone is stunned.

Wash rinse repeat. There is no news anymore. Just soothsaying.

Maybe it was a 'Rope-a-Dope'?

Feed that impression to the conservative media and then kick them in the ballz?

”Tomorrow is going to be a very different day for Comey, particularly in light of what we've learned -- the misconduct during the Flynn investigation was all about, thanks to a judge that demanded to understand what had happened," Issa told host Maria Bartiromo, referring to U.S. District Judge Emmet G. Sullivan's order last week that led Mueller to turn over key documents in the case.

He continued: "I would not be surprised a bit if the conviction of Flynn is overturned, because of the Justice Department and FBI's misconduct -- and that in fact, we go potentially all the way to the Supreme Court, with new protections -- when the FBI and the Department of Justice lies to someone and tricks them into making statements, and then charges them with a lie they entrapped them in. ... This kind of conduct we haven't seen in a long time."

Issa could not have been more wrong.

Good luck with restitution. After that hearing, he and his lawyers are on record, admitting Flynn was not a victim of FBI subterfuge.
