If there's a pantheon of drummers, Ginger Baker is in it. He transcended being a clock and became part of a song's harmony.

Which shouldn't surprise anyone who knows one of his drum heroes turned out to be Elvin Jones even before Jones became part of John Coltrane's "Classic Quartet."

Ascot Records was a mid-1960s subsidiary label of United Artists Records in the United States. Most of its releases were directed at teens and young adults with Manfred Mann being Ascot's most successful act. But Ascot was just one of many U.A. sub-labels and by 1968 it was discontinued.

Looks like I am throwing out some more obscure stuff of late (most with a more 50s sound)... Hope yall don't mind... Easy threw out a name I had to look up (Ginger was a reference to hair color now I see)... but I got to listen to a good drummer (I watched a documentary of sorts on Mr. Baker)... Pookie still amazes me in his ability to connect the dots between groups... Thanks gang...

So hope someone gets a smile out of these lesser known groups with the well loved sound of the previous 50s era... I got a kick out of the Debbie Rollins song (He really loves me)...

Seventeen Techniques for Truth Suppression

Of all tyrannies, a tyranny sincerely exercised for the good of its victims may be the most oppressive. It would be better to live under robber barons than under omnipotent moral busybodies. The robber baron's cruelty may sometimes sleep, his cupidity may at some point be satiated; but those who torment us for our own good will torment us without end for they do so with the approval of their own conscience.

Dangit Pookie, lol, I was watching your Supremes videos and ended up watching a documentary on them and before I knew it two hours were gone... just so easy to lose time when investing in music.

I’m having a crown done on Monday at the dentists office. The dentist is nice but he has the radio in the room set on the 60s channel on satellite radio. Heard a lot of good tunes the last time I got my teeth cleaned and xrays .

Stuff I didn’t know besides Beatles and Stones.

Aside from the fact that John Lennon and Paul McCartney wrote "I Call Your Name" and "I Wanna Be Your Man" (they even finished the latter at the session where the Rolling Stones prepared to cut the song as a single), here's one the Beatles covered during their BBC performances, a Little Eva number written by Gerry Goffin and Carole King . . .

The Beatles, "Keep Your Hands Off My Baby"

Johnny Rivers  -  By the Time I Get to Phoenix

I'm guessing that this is the version Glen Campbell heard when he decided that he wanted to record the song. I am so glad he did.

And I'm even more glad that Isaac Hayes decided to see and raise (and did exactly that!) . . .

@EasyAce

Some lanes shouldn't merge. Like Tony Bennett singing Hank Williams. Like Isaac Hayes singing Jimmy Webb. Love Tony. Love Isaac. But their adaptations don't work for me.
