I have been searching for quite a while for a way to get cellphone txting on my desktop. I spend so much time at my desk that trying to fuss with txts on a stoopid phone gets me irate.
ANYHOO, I don't know when the option was added, but I lately discovered a pretty cool thing.
You need a droid, with Android Message replaced by Google Messages
On your PC:
Open any common browser (works for sure with FF and Chrome) to this page:
https://messages.android.com/You may want 'Remember this Computer' turned on.
On your phone, Open Google Messages, and in the top right, find the triple dot menu and select 'Messages for Web' in the pulldown.
Once the dialog presents, push the button, and point the phone at the QR code square visible on your PC, and the rest just happens. Poof! Instant txting from your PC!
Seems to work really well, better than anything else I have tried... but it tends to hawg my batt some. Not a problem, as a power cord is always available.
LOL! I have had Google Messages and Google Keyboard on my phone nearly from the beginning! Funny that the answer was there all the way along.
Hope this helps somebody else.
