I agree with your first paragraph.

Not sure about the second.  The guy's got more money than he's got a use for, and could make it faster NOT being POTUS.  I mean, once you can afford one aircraft carrier, what's the point of a second?

I believe POTUS simply served one of two goals.  The first would be ego.  The second would be that he loves this country and wants to give back (though I tend to disagree on many of his methods).

I have a confession to make.  I posted that because it was outrageous but wanted to provoke thought. 

I do think that ego is involved.  I also believe that Trump has used the inflated tactics mentioned in the book to gain his following.  In other words the talk has been tough but the action isn't.  He has built on the fantasy of bringing illegal immigration to a halt.  It won't.

It was absolutely known that the Trump properties are built with illegal immigrants.  He can say he doesn't hire them because the contractors do.  But he never voiced any concern about illegal immigrants being used in his constructions.

As for business advantage.  Of course in his business he will gain.  When he goes back to private life his business, and the business of his kids will have benefited greatly.   The only thing that I posted I don't believe is that he did it purely for his business.  The only thing we really have to work on is his previous interviews about government and his thoughts on politics to work with.  I remember a lot of condemnation on Iraq war but I don't remember America First.

Suppose Trump IS taking Americans for a ride.  That should be a consideration from all of us.  So far placing unarmed guards at the border and sending troops in to help process paperwork for asylum is NOT resolving the illegal immigration problem, building a wall nor preventing further caravans from coming here.

Like much else, everything with Trump is window dressing, Reality TV mirages, superficiality and fascades designed to create illusions and to cause everyone to keep talking about him, good or bad.

Not much in the way of hard substance outside of what his fanbase insists, which is just a straw hut on a sand bar waiting for the next Democrat hurricane to erode it all away the same way he tossed it together.  The dock pilings of his SCOTUS confirmations will probably be all that remains, and possibly the only lasting legacy beyond the negative garbage the media will make hard history.

As much as I wish Gov Abbott would deploy combat units from the 36ID to the border and patrol with armed Bradley Fighting Vehicles and such...it’s not gonna happen.

What I think we are going to see in the way of NG and AD troops are more logistical and support units to relieve the Border Patrol of some of the “beans and bullets” things so they can concentrate on capturing the bad guys trying to come across the border. You may also see some intel assets providing drone flights and ISR (intel surveillance and reconnaissance) as well as some military police who specialize in detainee operations.

All of that frees up BP agents to patrol and protect the border.

Suspend all immigration.

Close the border.  Seal it.  No one in for the duration of this crisis while new procedures and policies are developed to permit limited immigration via new guidelines.

Anyone who attempts to cross the border and gain entry will be considered a hostile and shot.


There is absolutely nothing wrong with that course of action, except from those who want the damn borders open to the welfare state and those who emote and do not think.

The border control guys are the ones that have put their lives on the line every day down there.  Let's hope that the mere presence of the US military will make most of these invaders rethink their attempt to cross into the USA.  And yeah, I do think our military is more than ready and equipped to deal with the drug cartel azholes.

The additional troops would mean that the number of U.S. forces deployed at the border would be greater than those currently in Syria and Iraq, and roughly half of those deployed in Afghanistan.

Actually, my poiint had nothing to do with Trump winning or losing, but how he is playing the game. If you had read Ringer's book, you would be able to see that.

He has done some good things, and here and there (like pushing for E15 fuel)  punked the pooch, imho.

Maybe he can declare an emergency and start building the wall from the most likely border 'landfall' of the eye of the 'caravan and go east and west from there.

I know its bad.  And unless or until we change our stupid laws (catch and release, chain migration, etc.)... it will continue.  All I DO know for sure... is that unless Trump manages to stop this caravan of invaders from entering the USA, he is toast politically.
