New Facility Aims to Convert 150 Tons of CO2 to Natural Gas Per Year

A recently-opened facility in Italy creates renewable natural gas from atmospheric carbon dioxide, water, and electricity.

It’s not enough to simply stop pumping carbon dioxide into the air to minimize the effects of global warming. We also need to start taking out some of the carbon dioxide we’ve already put there. Swiss startup Climeworks is in the business of doing just that, and recently began operation of a facility in Italy that sucks carbon dioxide out of the air and converts it into natural gas.

Climeworks has been in the business of collecting atmospheric carbon dioxide for a few years now. In 2017, it launched the world’s first ‘negative emissions’ plant, by equipping an existing geothermal plant in Iceland with a facility for collecting CO2. That facility uses excess heat and electricity from the geothermal plant to capture CO2 from the air and bury it in the ground.

What insanity!!!

They spend more energy to remove the C02 from the air, to make CH4, so they can burn it and return the CO2 to the air.

The net result due to inefficiencies results in more C02 created, than if they used the geothermal directly for electrical power.  Because of inefficiencies, the net loss has to be made up with another source of energy to balance out total power for electrical generation.

I display the Confederate Battle Flag in honor of my great great great grandfathers who spilled blood at Wilson's Creek and Shiloh.  5 others served in the WBTS with honor too.

With ethanol, humans have been burning our food for fuel.

With this facility, humans will now be burning food used by plants to produce fuel.
