Middle school apologizes after student advised to turn GOP elephant shirt inside out
By Douglas Ernst - The Washington Times
Tuesday, October 16, 2018

A Florida mother says she received an apology from Kirby-Smith Middle School officials after an employee told her son to turn a GOP elephant shirt inside out.

“Spirit Week” at the Jacksonville school recently inspired one student to show off his conservative credentials, but the outfit didn’t sit well with a staff member. The family, who spoke to local reporters on condition of anonymity, said the shirt was described as a possible dress code violation.

“It was Nerd Day, so he wanted to be a Republican nerd,” the student’s mother said Oct. 12.

A Duval County Public School spokesperson told the station that a staff member was confused about the difference between its employee dress code and the student dress code.

The offending shirt:

Nothing on it that says "Republican" that I can see...
