Kavanaugh ‘circus’ is a disaster for an independent judiciary

Political grandstanding during the nomination of a new US Supreme Court justice is perhaps to be expected in the era of Donald Trump. But the process surrounding Brett Kavanaugh – and his testimony on September 28 – has caused potentially irreparable damage to the one branch of government often considered to be a bastion of stability and independence in Washington DC.

The accusations of sexual assault against Kavanaugh made by Christine Blasey Ford – albeit so far unproven – are shocking and rightly became the subject of an FBI investigation. President Donald Trump then added fuel to the fire by publicly mocking her. But the Democratic Party’s obstructionist tactics and their injection of politics into the hearings have played their own part in damaging the integrity of the highest court in the land.

I think the article mischaracterizes the point.  The Kavanaugh hearing isn't a disaster for an independent judiciary.  It is a disaster for the appearance of an independent judiciary.  It's simply exposing fault lines that have long existed.

How can we have an independent judiciary if one on the highest court of the country condemns the President?

At a minimum, Ginsburg should recuse herself from any and all hearings before the court concerning Trump.

Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg calls Trump a 'faker,' he says she should resign

No punishment, in my opinion, is too great, for the man who can build his greatness upon his country's ruin~  George Washington

Exactly.  Those Democrats arguing that Kavanaugh is not suited for the Court because of his rant against the politicization of the confirmation process seemingly had zero problem with Ginsberg's comment.

The usual double standard at work.

The "judiciary" can try to create the appearance of being "independent", but it has been politicized since its inception. Probably back to Marbury v. Madison...   (or even before that)
