U.S. Sen. Ted Cruz, R-Texas, and Democratic challenger Beto Oâ€™Rourke are set to square off on the debate stage for the first time Friday evening in Dallas.

The 6 p.m. event at Southern Methodist University is the first of three hourlong debates, and it comes as polls continue to show a tight race between Cruz and Oâ€™Rourke, an El Paso congressman. On Friday morning, the Cook Political Report changed its rating of the race from â€œLean Republicanâ€ to â€œToss Up.â€

The Dallas debate is being presented by SMU, NBC 5/KXAS and The Dallas Morning News. It will be broadcast live on NBC 5/KXAS, its website and the Dallas Morning Newsâ€™ website as well. The Texas Tribune will feature the livestream of the debate on this page.

The topic of the debate is domestic policy, and it will be moderated by NBC 5 political reporter Julie Fine and Dallas Morning News political writer Gromer Jeffers. Both candidates will stand at podiums before a 240-person audience.

Cruz got the Kavanaugh question and he neatly turned it on Beatoff wanting activist judges in the SC.

Beatoff attacked Cruz on his support of various judge candidates.
Says FBI should investigate Kavanaugh. Full stop.

Cruz came right back saying Beatoff didn't deny he wants activist judges.

They got into it over the Second Amendment. Beto lied that he fully supports the second amendment.

Obamacare question- Cruz had the facts. Cruz says we CAN protect pre-existing conditions. Beto's rebuttal telling sob stories about sick people. Says if O care is repealed we can't keep pre-existing coverage.

Cruz pointed out Beto didn't address the sky-high premiums.

Texas values- Cruz lower taxes, lower regulations, protect the border. Yes, the hard left is energized. Millions of dollars are flowing into Texas from out of state when Beto says he'll vote to impeach Trump, to abolish ICE, even Nancy Pelosi doesn't say that.

Beto says he's been to each county in Texas. Attacking Cruz for running for president by visiting all the Iowa counties. Saying Cruz missed a lot of votes. Beto lied and said that his campaign is funded only by grassroots Texans.

Cruz slams Beto back with all the times he's been on the ground at events in Texas.

Beto wants everything for everybody and complains about the high deficit.

Cruz points out all the times Beto has voted to raise taxes a rain tax, a pool tax. Beto is for the death tax.

Beto makes nice about how hard Cruz works and Cruz returns the sentiment.

Cruz very cleverly said that Beto really believes in the left wing ideology he promotes. Beto nastily said, "true to form." The truth hurts.

Cruz closing statement wraps Beto in a cozy blanket with socialists Bernie Sanders and Alexandra Ocasio-Cortez.

In recent years the US Pecan Growers Council has been actively marketing US Pecans around the globe; several of the markets identified to have large growth potential are China, India, Turkey, South Korea, and Vietnam. While the organization has made progress in all these markets over the years the Indian market is one that many believe could have the biggest impact to pecan exports behind China.

China has come onto the scene in the past years as a major buyer of US pecans and has been increasing imports of US Pecans for years with no signs of slowing down in the foreseeable future. The major driver of this newly found appetite for pecans comes mainly from Chinaâ€™s growing middle class. China has a population 1.379 billion people, but the important number is the size of the middle class. According to Reuters by 2020, 550 million Chinese residents will be considered middle class.

Which brings us to India. India also has a large population of around 1.342 billion people, and according to a report from Forbes will have a middle-class population of 475 million people by 2030. The important part is the growth rate of Indiaâ€™s middle class, because by 2030 India will be adding more citizens to the global middle class than China. Currently, however India is not a large importer of US pecans. This is due largely in part to the higher tariffs placed on pecans than other tree nuts entering the country. But there is hope, for several years the US Pecan Industry has requested assistance from the government in correcting these unfair tariffs and it seems they have made some progress. A recent article in Pecan South magazine reported that Senator Ted Cruz is heading an effort to lower that tariff, and currently has the support of six other senators from the pecan belt.
