Tracking Animals From Space Could Provide Early Warning Of Geological Disasters

Last week two cosmonauts, Oleg Artemjew and Sergej Prokopjew, successfully installed an antenna on the International Space Station. The new antenna is part of ICARUS, a project to monitor movements of animals on a global scale. After seventeen years of research, the space-based tracker system will collect and analyze the data send by special transmitters, small enough to be carried by birds and even insects.
