Mazz Murray was due to perform at the Royal Albert Hall in London in October
She is 'barred' from singing the 'African American musical' because she is white
Brian May said apparent decision displayed an 'unpleasant new kind of injustice'

A British singer was told she could not perform a song from Dreamgirls at the Royal Albert Hall because she is white, it is claimed.

Mazz Murray was due to perform in October, with the highlight being her rendition of a ballad from the musical.

But the 45-year-old West End star is said to have been barred from singing it because she is not black and the song is part of an ‘African American musical’.

Rock star Brian May said the apparent decision displayed an ‘unpleasant new kind of race-based injustice’.

Praising Miss Murray for her eight-year run in his band Queen’s musical We Will Rock You, in which she played the Killer Queen, May wrote on Instagram: ‘It seems some theatre impresarios, out of fear of being branded discriminatory to artists of colour, are making decisions that discriminate against white artists.

You don’t become cooler with age but you do care progressively less about being cool, which is the only true way to actually be cool.

All you white folks who are sad about the death of Aretha Franklin, just stop it right now. You're not black and it's nunya bidness.
The abnormal is not the normal just because it is prevalent.

'unpleasant new kind of injustice'

Racism isn't new.  It is just a "new kind of ignorance" that thinks it only goes one way.

Apparently, it is now common for black actors to play parts written originally for white actors. Like the bway musical "Hamilton" which has black performers acting the parts of historical people who were white.
Fine. Then there should be no problem  the next time  a play/ movie/ tv production about some black historical figure occurs a white or non-black performer play the part.
How about Jackie Chan or Sean Penn playing the part of MLK in some future historical drama? I'm sure nobody will complain about that.
