Does this not happen because the parents are being arrested for breaking the law? Do children ever accompany their parents to jail? Are Democrats saying it should be handled in a special way because they are immigrants? Nobody is being permanently split up. People are going to jail and the kids they brought with them need shelter somewhere during the deportation process.

That's actually a very good point.  By the tear-jerk rationale of the left, we should never put someone who is a parent of minor children in jail.

I didn't fully understand the situation until the other day, and then when I did it just seemed extremely bizarre that the left is outraged. It's almost as if they believe Trump went out of his way to see that innocent families are split up. Hatred makes people ignorant.

It's not about any of that. The left has been losing hard over the past year. They know that the Russian collusion narrative is falling apart, and they are desperate to find something to unite over, and "children in cages" is as good as it gets. They've been seeing constant evidence that he's not the Hitler they envisioned, so they needed something to reinforce the fascistic Hitler narrative they always believed was the truth.

Hey there, @Dexter!  The problem as I understood it was:

1) Parent charged with misdemeanor, put in lockup while child goes to HHS
2) Parent serves misdemeanor sentence, usually 1-2 days, and is moved to ICE for amnesty/deportation proceedings
3) At that point, parent still doesn't see child, may not even know where child is.

I believe there is also at least one lawsuit because a family went to a border checkpoint and claimed asylum (all legal at that point), but were still separated etc. 

Hopefully any problems like this are on the way to being solved.

The radical left that is pushing this BS couldn't care less about the truth.... ie that this is how it has been done under the past two presidents, as well.  They just need something, anything, that they can fire up their stuckonstupid constituents over....and play on that over-emotional aspect.  Truth and reality never enters into what subs as their thinking, nor does facts (like the fact that the kid on the cover of Time was never really separated from her parents).

You're correct.  They ARE desperate.  And over the next 4+ months, look for them to get a lot more desperate.  Anything is possible, coming from them.
