Who Was Empress Dowager Cixi?

Empress Dowager Cixi (1835-1908), whose name was Yehenara from the beginning came from a minor, but prestigious Manchu family. She was intelligent, and her parents gave her proper educations. She could read, write, draw and sew. At an early age she showed interests in economy and she often gave her father advise in business related questions.

Yehenara was no extraordinary beauty, but she was a pretty and intelligent girl.
