Trump’s legal team hoping to limit scope of potential special counsel interview with Trump

President Trump’s legal team wants to limit questions posed in a possible interview between Trump and special counsel Robert Mueller to issues that occurred prior to the 2016 election, according to a new report.

Trump’s personal attorneys are pursuing an arrangement with Mueller in which they hope he agrees to narrow or remove any inquires about Trump’s actions after he was elected. In particular, his attorneys are trying to prevent Trump from being asked about whether he obstructed justice as president, CNN reports.

“We said we wanted the questions limited to Russian collusion,” a source with knowledge of Trump’s legal strategy told CNN.

Trump’s legal counsel is also weighing the potential of Trump submitting some answers in written form, and responding to others in person. For example, they are considering having Trump answer queries in person about matters prior to the election, and then provide written responses regarding obstruction.

Mueller has indicated he would not accept written answers. He also has not signaled if he is interested in curtailing his questions to issues from before the election.
