Yes, modern music is truly awful. I can say that I have not heard anything listenable in the past three years.
Contrast that with these two which were released within a 3 month period in 1971.

If you're talking pop there is some good stuff out there, but like
@To-Whose-Benefit? video points out, it just takes some time to find it. I like Pentatonix because they are really all vocally gifted and then they cover mostly current hits in an acapella style that mostly doesn't sound acapella. One of the members of that group, Kevin Olusola is a very talented cellist, singer, beatboxer, etc. and has a pretty interesting personal story. And the former bass singer, Avi Kaplan, is a pretty talented guy too.
